2024 Volleyball Megathread

Just got home from the VB match with WFU. Ladies looked better that last weekend. Passing and back line defense was much improved. Wake won 3-1 but the 3rd set was 25-23 and the 4th set was 27-25. We got behind by large amounts in both sets and battled back to take late set leads with multiple chances at the win. It was a packed house with a good number of very loud App fans!! My prayers go out to Maddie Smith our freshman OH. She was having a great night at the net hitting and blocking and went down to the floor on the last play of the 3rd set at the net. Looked like a knee injury and based on her immediate reactions it did not look good. Had to be helped off the court in obvious pain and tears. Hopefully it is not season ending.

I am not sure why the Hutchens kid has not been the OH from day 1. She can jump and she has power, she is better than the other freshman that had been starting before she got hurt. I am impressed with her and concerned about the coaching staff not having her on the floor earlier.

After dropping the first two sets to JMU, App VB storms back to take the final three to take down the Dukes for the second night in a row.

I am not sure why the Hutchens kid has not been the OH from day 1. She can jump and she has power, she is better thato n the other freshman that had been starting before she got hurt. I am impressed with her and concerned about the coaching staff not having her on the floor earlier.

Maybe you should be sure before questioning the starting lineup. I can think of a quick dozen reasons for a frosh player to be a bit slow in meeting the coach's exacting expectations--and I'm not trying very hard. Bella Hutchens, however, seems to have been ready to step-up when her name was called. To her credit and App State's good fortune.

The stepping-up part doesn't always work out. (See App State Football for several examples.)

App State beats a very good ODU team on Friday night and lost to them on Saturday. They looked pretty good on Friday, but as a team (except a couple spots) did not look very good on Saturday. The struggle of a young team. Hopefully they can get the injured setter back soon to help smooth out the offense.

Big win for the volleyball team last night over Georgia Southern. This team is really starting to gel at the right time.

She has been on crutches ever since. I don’t know what the final outcome was of her injury. This team has taken off though in her absence.

App comes back from 10 points down in the third set to beat Coastal and get the series sweep, as well. App is in second in the East.

Big win tonight! The sweep gives them the SBC East division title. This team is fun to watch. Those 2 freshman are going to be something else over the next few years!

It's been a good Fall season for our women's athletic teams. Already one SBC title, a regular season division title, and a regular season co-champ.
