MLB Post-Season...
After a week of no access to internet (didn't realize how much I use the internet until it's gone) and another 3 days of denial about the Reds, let's get caught up on the Post Season shall we?
NL:
Shockingly, the Giants and Cardinals have survived to continue their runs in 2012. Can the Cardinals' magic pull out another NL pennant this year? Will the Giants pitching come back and pull another "Cincinnati" to play in the Series by winning 3-in-a-row?
While the Nats may have been over-reaching a little this year (we will be talking about baseball in DC again for a couple years), did anyone think that the Cardinals would take the series? Give the redbirds some credit - they are playing their best ball when it counts.
Giants, the SF Giants... How in the world did they beat the Reds scoring only 2 (TWO) earned runs in the first three games? Oh my denial is kicking back up... Now we watch those same Giants playing the Cardinals. No need to elaborate here: Cardinals move on the back-to-back World Series appearances.
AL:
The magical mystery tour known as Buck Showalter finally run out of juice against the Yankees. While many were saddened to see the Cinderalla Orioles bow out, it would have been a Disney movie in the making if they had moved on. The O's only had a +7 run differential for the season. The next lowest playoff team was the Tigers at +56. It caught up with them against the Bronx Boys.
On the other side, The Tigers did their part and took used 'home' field advantage perfectly. Even though it went 5 games, Mr. Verlander is the horse you don't want to see on the mound for game 5.
So, we moved on to the ALCS: the Yankees visited the Tigers clubhouse. And "visited" is the appropriate word. WOW! With a 4 game sweep thanks for great pitching (by hurlers not named Verlander mind you) and the Tigers are the visiting team for the 2012 World Series.
World Series: Hmmm... I'm thinking Verlander/Cabrera/Fielder/Leyland and company bring the trophy to Motor City for the first time since Kirk Gibson/Sparky Anderson days (1984).

I've had a feeling the Cards were going to repeat since the playoffs started. Nothing has changed my mind yet, so I'll hold my nose and pick the %$^&*^# Cards again.
Go Tigers!

Now that the O's are out, I'm rooting for hometown boy Tom Brookens (Tigers first-base coach) to get a ring to match the one from '84.

I am and have always been a senior circuit kid, but this year - me thinks the Tigers will reign. I know they had (by some opinions) a rough season, but they are playing like they want it again, at the right time. Can you imagine facing Verlander up to 3 times in 9 days? Ouch!

Amazing indeed. Winners of 6 straight elimination games. They finally got the bats going, especially Scutaro and three straight pitching gems. I am a fan but I thought they had lost both series. Yet another very tough team ahead for them.

Concur... Everyone talked about the Cardinal magic last year. The Giants seem to be getting drunk on it this year. I know of NO Giants fans that saw this coming. Most starting writing the year off when Melky got caught. Nice story line, but I'm putting my money on the Tigers.eggers76 wrote:Amazing indeed. Winners of 6 straight elimination games. That's being a smart man with your bets and money. I will still go with the Giants and be glad I am not a betting man. Looking forward to the Series.

OK - how many saw the Panda cracking three bombs and Verlander getting scored on like a rookie out of AA ball?

Unusual to say the least. Especially in that ballpark. Lot's of crazy stuff happening for the Giants right now. I hope it continues but you never know. Hopefully Caldwell County's Madison Bumgarner can get back his early season form tonight. That is a tough lineup he will be facing.

Re: MLB Post-Season...
Give Madi a ton of credit. Both he and Fister came to play last night. Madison hasn't pitched like that ins weeks and Fister just did his thing. SF starters are stepping up big. Let's see if the trend continues in Detroit of if the big cat bats wake up.eggers76 wrote:Hopefully Caldwell County's Madison Bumgarner can get back his early season form tonight. Some are already writing off the Tigers, but I'm sticking with them...

Re: MLB Post-Season...
Two pretty good pitching efforts last night. You are right about that being Madison's best job in quite some time. Just when the Giants needed it too. Please keep picking against the Giants because it has worked pretty good for them so far.
I don't think it is over yet. You have to play them one at a time.
