When I was a student at App I served on the committee that put on the on campus concerts. It was called Popular Programs. We hosted Jerry Jeff Walker in Farthing Auditorium. For some reason, he and his band flew into Wilkesboro and I picked them up at the airport. So I had the Lost Gonzo Band in my car and Jerry Jeff rode in another car. They sufficiently prepared themselves for the concert on the way back to Boone. After the concert, I drove Jerry Jeff and his road manager to PB's (he wanted to go somewhere and party so I took him to PB's) where he drank a lot, played several songs with the band that was playing there that night, and fell down those third floor steps. I then drove him to his hotel where he invited me in and he and some of his band jammed in his room until like 4:00 am. Before the "after party" broke up he thanked me for being his driver for the night and his manager gave a $20 bill. Crazy and memorable night.

Had a chance to go one night, I think my junior year at App with several friends. Didn't really have the money at the time, besides, who had ever heard of a group called R.E.M. :(

Man oh man, saw everyone from The Killer Whales, Molly Hatchett, Eastern Seaboard, Spongetones, on and on at PB Scots. Good times had by all.

Loved that place. Saw many great concerts there including the last one which featured the Spongetones...the best Beatles cover band ever.

The Spongetone shows were always a party. Cruise-a-Matic, Sidewinder and the George Hatcher Band were also P.B.'s regulars in the early eighties. Shook hands with BB King after a show in '81 or '82. Clyde's for a happy hour bucket (or two) then a trek across the parking lot to the "dome" was a Friday routine for a lot of us back in those days.

Clyde buckets followed by PB Scotts was great Friday routine. Both met the same bulldozer fate; such a shame.

The Dixie Dregs were the best. Period. I saw them a bunch of times at P.B. Scott's. Still remember the guitarist's name: Steve Morse. Wow! Unbelievable technique & great tunes - all instrumentals. The band members met at U. of Miami - Music Dept., as I recall.

I saw many bands there. Too bad it's gone.

Any of you remember the band Subway? Think they were from Charlotte, remember them at PB Scotts back in the early 80s. That was a great place-PBScotts.

What great memories and what a fantastic venue for live music. Collectively, the PB Scott's shows remain at the top with many favorite concert memories. Saw bands such as The Dixie Dregs, Sea Level, BB King, George Thorogood and the Destroyers, Catfish Hodge, and New Riders of the Purple Sage. The Dixie Dregs were a collection of virtuoso musicians, trained at the U of Miami School of Music. They could really play their brand of jazz, rock, country fusion and seemed to love playing at PBs. As an Allman Brothers fan, Sea Level (Chuck Level, Jaimoe, Lamar Williams, Randall Bramblett) was one of the most anticipated shows at PBs during the '78-'79 school year. The "cats" could play, but the show was way too short. BB King was a class act and it was a treat to see him in such an intimate venue. George Thorogood and the Destroyers put on an energetic show and blew the roof off the joint. And the local/regional acts were great as well, including Brice Street, Spongetones, Bonnie Gringo, and The Fabulous Knobs, to name a few.

I still have my old PB Scotts membership card from '83 somewhere in the attic. For some reason my eyes were glazed over in the photo. Clydes, PB Scotts, Antlers and Mother Fletcher's were all great times. I need a hot tub time machine!

Nicolette Larson RIP, up close and personal while she sang Lotta Love. Returned one night from PBs to a party at Horn in the West, passed out in the snow, might have froze to death but for another party goer finding me!

I worked at Alpine Ski Center at Sugar in 2000 - 2003 (I think) and always heard it used to be a club where Jimmy Buffet and other big names played. I now know it was called Hub Pub Club thanks to this article.Everybody that worked late nights claimed it was haunted because the owner killed himself in the basement but it appears he killed himself at the Winston location. I had never heard about PB Scott's despite growing up in Banner Elk. Interesting local history!

Trip down memory lane. Good times at PB's and The Horn. We had one Friday night party at the Horn and I think half the school showed up. Never forget the phone ringing at 6:30 the next morning. It was Chancellor Thomas telling us to get the parking lot cleaned up immediately. Seems there was a farmer's market going on and they couldn't get in the parking lot or set up for all the beer cans. It was a rough morning, all of those old ladies staring. It got better when I smarted off to one of them that the folks cleaning it up didn't actually drink all the stuff in the lot. They seemed grateful we were there after that.

Great venue, great shows. Will never forget Mike Cross at PB Scott's. Very different from Mothers Finest and the Dixie Dregs, but always a good show.

Wow, I had forgotten all about Mike Cross, great stuff. . I think my favorite two shows at PB's were the Bonnie Raitt and Ramsey Lewis shows. PB's had a Jazz series in summers for a while and the Ramsey Lewis show was packed.

One of my favorite Mike Cross tunes ever was "I Don't Know Who Threw the Liquor in the Well But I Think I Know Who Found It " . Great musician. And yes, what a trip down memory lane. Many mentioned Clydes. Went there some Friday afternoons , threw darts , drank beer , and then made my way over to PBS's for some good music. Another good place to start off Friday afternoon was Holleys (where Canyons is located now).
