The mighty Mongo has fallen. Heck of a football player and had a nice acting career after. Blazing Saddles was one of my all-time favorites which I saw for the first time with the ASU soccer team on a road trip in Clemson. The dreaded Mongo might have just been a "pawn in game of life," but who can forget him riding into Rock Ridge on that ox or bull or whatever that ugly thing was and knocking out the horse with one punch?

Big Alex was an All-Pro lineman for the Detroit Lions in the mid-60s and was a teammate of former Mountaineer all-American Larry Hand in Detroit for about 8 seasons.

As an absolute Packer fan in the 50s and 60s I didn't like anyone else - those guys were a totally different breed from today's NFL players - Hard and tough to their very core - I remember my Dad yelling at the TV when they would announce Hand from App a lay shun State - "it's APP - A - LATCH - UN" --- we were in WV and he had no connection to ASU - it would just make him mad that they announcers didn't know how to pronounce not just the school but the entire region ---
And Blazing Saddles was the first full-out laugh your ass-off movie I remember - still one of the funniest every made - I could quote you many lines right now but I got to go back to the ranch and get a sheetload of quarters ---
