Water falls

Does anyone know of some water falls relatively close to Boone with public access? My 8 year old wants to see one this summer. Any help would be appreciated.

Trashcan Falls is a good one for jumping off of. About a fifteen foot drop into a pretty deep pool beneath.

If you're up for a nice little drive down the parkway then go check out Wilson's Creek. It's maybe a 20-25 minute drive down the parkway then another 20 minutes down into the wilderness area. Also a good place to get some great views of the entire valley & Grandfather mountain.

Yep. Hound Ears pulled out all the stops, paying thousands of dollars to drop bolders along the side of the road and contracting a tow company to strand college kids. That was one of my fondest college memories: climbing around hebron and beaching it with a cooler at the dam. The club criminalized the practice a few years after I graduated.

But I guess we wouldn't want to subject Hound Ears Club members to the horror of seeing cars parked in the vicinity of their course. Snobby curmudgeon bastards.

I posted because I feel strongly about those who constantly bash authority, whether it be the Boone PD (whom you call Nazis) or private property owners such as Hound Ears.

I didn't miss the point. The point seemed to be that students were getting their cars towed while they were boozing it up at the water fall.

I was soliciting help from those who might have actually seen some of these falls first hand and who might have hiked down to them. My gratitude goes out to those MMB'ers who posted serious recommendations.

Well Hound Ears' practice of towing is an effort to keep the kids themselves away from the area. It's not like that parking lot is used for any other purpose or students are keeping patrons from enjoying their club, like I said, it's a liability issue. So no, a generic snark about obeying posted parking signs isn't really relevant. The real shame of the situation is that App students can no longer properly enjoy a local swimming hole that so many before them enjoyed. I do understand why the club would need to proactively defend themselves from a lawsuit given such a dynamic. I was merely commenting to explain why those two spots are no longer what they used to be, and pairing it with a half-serious gripe.

Don't go chasing waterfalls. Please stick to rivers and the lakes that you're used to. I know that you're going to have it your way or nothing at all, but I think you're moving too fast.

It is all about liability, many kids ended up jumping off the high spot and getting seriously injured. Multiple ambulance trips have been taken from the dam.
