One of the all-time greats in Baltimore Colt history. The only down side is that I still see Jimmy Orr in the end zone, wide open no one within 20 yards of him, and Morrall through an INT during the 1969 Super Bowl. The one Joe Willie guaranteed a win by the Jets. I'm still not over it.....

I'd have to say that season and the 1968 season leading up to the 1969 Super Bowl were equally memorable. Morrall replaced Johnny Unitas early in the season after he tore his Achilles tendon. Morrall was the league MVP, led them through the playoffs, and against the Jets who were ridiculous underdogs. Joe Namath got so tired of the media dissing the Jets that he guaranteed that they would win; they did, 16-7. Morrall had the worst game of the season and Unitas hobbled in late and threw their only TD pass.

I understand completely your sentiments towards the Dolphins; I'd feel the same way as you if I were in your shoes. My point is the similarities: replacing 2 HOF quarterbacks and salvaging the seasons and making it to the Super Bowl. The 2 rings gives him the edge there but for a 2nd string QB to win league MVP has to speak for some special recognition.

I'm not over it either, Scat. I hated the Giants and didn't recognize the AFL as a real football league. JWNamath, in his ankle length mink coat, was just too much for me. I was force-fed three nasty doses of reality that afternoon. Don't think recovery from that is an option for me.

That's BALTIMORE COLTS fans. I have a special place in my heart for Mike Curtis after he clobbered that fan ran onto the field.

Big Joe Namath fan here, and loved to see the Jets win Super Bowl III --- BUT, was also an Earl Morrall fan and loved to see him have much success in many other games and times. Class act and a great example of a hard-working team player that stepped up when needed and came to the rescue for both the Colts and the Dolphins.
