I even heard the App...State chant break out. A lot of good was done there last night by these guys and gals. Give Church a break. He loves his state and the mountains. Nothing “happened” unc just didn’t pay attention to church until he was famous. Once he became famous he dropped App.asu2000 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 3:37 pmHere is the rub - not directed to you personally, but he tried and did use App as a marketing stepping stone early in his career and in the past and something happened and now he is raising money for Chapel Hill, no doubt about it, effectively he has turned on App, maybe the admin turned on him, who knows. People say all sorts of things but actions speak louder than other peoples words.
People on this board white knight for church for God knows why, and it’s certainly his remit to cheer for who he wants, but ostensibly this board is for App fanatics, so I say anyone who eschews their alma mater and admittedly roots against them, is persona non grata as far as I’m concerned
Obligatory I’m thankful for his efforts for WNC and truly I am, but it doesn’t replace who he is.

I've been critical of Church, but he apparently gives a good bit of money each year and still has a suite at KBS. My only issue is his public support has falling off so much once Mack became the UNC coach. I get people have more than one school they pull for, but that doesn't mean you go silent on one.

Re: Combs, Church and Taylor
Exactly, this is one of those situations where you put all that crap aside and say they (Eric included) did a great thing, I don't care what you were wearing. That was tremendous, we must be thankful for the goodness, period. I am not a Panthers fan but the Teppers were there in a big way, as well.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 6:16 pmUnbelievable that anyone would be worried about either of these guys wearing or not wearing App gear. Combs and Church put together a show that to date raised over $25mil to help the people of western NC. Church committed to building 100 houses in western NC. And the whole thing was a really good time. It was something that was nothing but GOOD. And they are saying that pretty much everything spent on the show is actually going to the folks in western NC. Tepper donated the stadium, the labor to open it, the concessions and even paid the sales tax. Most if not all of the parking companies donated the money and Gildan donated all sells from concert shirts. Bottom line these guys did a wonderful thing! Just say thanks.
Can you imagine if after doing something GOOD like this and then hearing some rumblings about "but he didn't wear somebody's favorite whatever", those are so trivial at a moment in time like this. So what, I just don't get it folks. I believe folks on this board are better than that.

Where I live, there are unfortunately a lot of Georgia Southern "grads." I often laugh at them for their tremendous little brother syndrome regarding UGA. Some of y'all are just as bad about UNC. Why do any of you care about them at all? So Eric Church likes UNC. Who cares? He's not required to rep App State everywhere he goes. Maybe he just didn't like it as much as y'all did.

I’ll suggest this again - any thread mentioning Eric Church should be immediately nuked. It never goes anywhere productive, just people complaining, then people arguing back the other way…rinse and repeat.
Useless discussion. I’d rather read about West Virginia than Eric Church, and I actively root against them in every way

I started this tread and it does involve Eric Church but I never imagined that folks would be as petty as they are. It was about two guys with significant influence doing something genuinely generous and good for those folks affected by the disaster in Western NC. You know the folks who live in the place we all claim to care so much about. They raised around 25mil and one committed to building 100 houses. I can only hope that we find someone on this board who cares more about the APPALACHIAN people than either of these two guys. That would really be something. So come on some of you critics, get your pocket book out and start caring.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 11:58 amI’ll suggest this again - any thread mentioning Eric Church should be immediately nuked. A pic surfaced this weekend from college with one of our fraternity brothers and Eric Church (they were friends). I showed it to a neighbor (Vtech grad) and he said he had no idea that Church went to App, he’d always thought he went to UNC. I’m just sharing an outsider’s perception of who Eric Church represents. For the record, I love Eric Church. It’s up there with my love for Grayson McCall and Drake Maye. Those three guys are amazing.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 11:58 amI’ll suggest this again - any thread mentioning Eric Church should be immediately nuked. It’s not censorship, it’s removing a foolish topic that’s been beaten to death and is only argued by a few posters every time. We all get it. Some people hate Church because he’s a “turncoat”, some don’t give a damn. There’s nothing new in the argument.
If you find a new video where he says “App sucks” or something like that, fine. But clogging up the board with the same thing over and over is a waste of time and space.

let's get back on track. The Concert for Carolina was about all of western Carolina. Whether you went to the concert or not, read this. It will get the focus back on what's important.

Re: Combs, Church and Taylor
The issue with UNC has been covered on this board many times. It's not even close to a "little brother syndrome". UNC actively screws over our school as far as our funding goes. I don't give a rats a$$ who Church cheers for, and I don't care for his music or his personality. But he has no claim to App if he supports that school in Chapel Hill as far as im concerned. Any support of them hurts the value of my degree, and thats my problem. Before I knew much about him, his merchandise experiment rubbed me the wrong way. Kudos to him and Combs for the concert, it was incredibly awesome that they did that. Just like them, I did as much as I could and spent more than i felt comfortable doing for people in WNC. I had tickets and went to the Hornets game instead. I'm more of a Childers/Stapleton type of guy when it comes to that genre. I'm tired of App people trying to justify Church, just as much as I'm tired hating on him. Haha.MrCraig wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 8:30 amWhere I live, there are unfortunately a lot of Georgia Southern "grads." I often laugh at them for their tremendous little brother syndrome regarding UGA.
