Why did Willie Brooks close? How or why would so much change at Woodlands if it didn't need fixing....

Ridgewood BBQ, Bluff City, TN. Best I ever had, but, I haven't been there in many, many years. It used to be darn awesome. Hmmm there may be a road trip in the near future. You guys have my BBQ taste buds going now. Lexington has always been good for me but I do want to try JD's outside Lenoir. Friends of ours say it's really good.
Ridgewood is still excellent, but it's not NC style BBQ. Every time we go to Johnson City we pick up some Ridgewood.

I also didn't know Willie Brooks was gone.

Woodlands changed ownership. We went to see and we won't be going back. It was not good.

Any suggestions for the Raleigh area (Apex, Cary, Holly Springs)
I'd suggest giving the Redneck BBQ Lab in Benson a try. A little quirky spot located in a gas station, but they draw a big crowd.

I like Southern Craft BBQ on Watauga Lake, and the one in Johnson City.

Stephenson's is an old school joint on NC 50 between Garner and Benson near McGee's Crossroads. It's worth a try. I like it, but as is evident on every BBQ thread in the cabin, everyone has different tastes. Red Neck BBQ Lab is good but more Texas style than NC, and pricey. They also have a location in North Hills now. I haven't been to that one. Prime BBQ in Knightdale is good, Texas style and also pricey. The Pit in Raleigh (and Durham) is excellent.

Wow. Another independently owned restaurant in Boone bites the dust. With Willie Brooks, Boonies, and Joy Bistro all closing recently, if that keeps up we will have nothing but fast food and chains. Sad.

Not related to BBQ, but, to pork in general. Sometimes when we go kayaking/camping in West by god Virginia, I bring along a crock pot, a nice pork loin, some sauerkraut, and taters. Just sprinkle a little garlic powder and pepper on the loin, then put everything in the crock pot and let it cook on low for about 7 to 8 hours. Hit the river and by the time you get back to camp dinner is ready.

Is it confirmed that Willie Brooks is closed? Their website is still up and my son said that the signs were still up and cars were in the parking lot today.

I live close to there and have eaten there quite a few times and it was good. I'll go check it out when I get a chance and see what I can find out.

I wish the owners of Woodlands would have required their sign be taken down when they sold the place.
It's now Peddlin Pig and it sucks but from the outside you'll think it's still Woodlands

Willie Brooks was closed on Saturday, plus I spoke to the parent of someone that had been working there. They closed right after Christmas I believe.

And I forgot, Stephenson’s is on the NC BBQ Trail.

Before Johnson’s Family BBQ closed on Hwy98 in Durham it was the best around. I hear BBQ lab at North Hills is good. They started in Dunn NC. Also hear EXPENSIVE. It’s hard to trust BBQ reviews as I have found a lot of folks just don’t know good BBQ. when headed east I stop at Wilbur’s on 70 in Goldsboro. Get some to take home. In Mebane on 70 West Huey’s or Hursey’s on south 5th St. Clyde Coopers down town used to be very good. Have not been to their new location and I think ownership change. DO NOT go to Danny’s for BBQ. Their brisket is good.

Yeah, drive west toward Lexington. Ain't nothing good on that side of the state.
Hmmm, respectfully disagree, my significantly better half is from that side of the state. Now her thoughts about me may calibrate with your comments since I am from that side of the state as well 🤣🤣
I think the only recourse I have is to double down. Yeah, I said it...and I'll say it again.

Well I’m aint from down nair. I’m from the piedmont. But Wilbur’s is better than anything I know of in Raleigh. The best BBQ in Raleigh right now is off my Webber Charcoal grill. 😄

Wilbur’s in Goldsboro is the Gold Standard for barbecue.
I’ve been there. I respectfully disagree.
Last time I went to Wilbur's, it wasn't hitting on much. Food wasn't very good and the place was dirty, flies everywhere, but that's been a couple of years. The previous times I had been was good.
Under new management now

Better than anything in Raleigh. I am sure of that. We all know the best Que doesn’t come from anywhere near a skyline.
