Why did Willie Brooks close?
How or why would so much change at Woodlands if it didn't need fixing....
It's inexplicable, they threw out the baby with the bathwater. Completely changed the menu including the BBQ, the slaw recipe, no hamburgers and eliminating all Mexican. It is mostly unrecognizable to Woodlands regulars and fans. The menu is probably half of what it used to be.

All my food was cold last time I went and I’ve never been back.

I got some smoked chicken wings to-go from Woodlands/Pedaling Pig in Blowing Rock a couple of days ago. They were good, so at least they've got that going for them. They have chopped the menu down substantially, and they close at 8:30.

Any suggestions for the Raleigh area (Apex, Cary, Holly Springs)
Yeah, drive west toward Lexington. Ain't nothing good on that side of the state.
Wilbur’s in Goldsboro is the Gold Standard for barbecue.
Used to sto at Wilbur’s on the way to the coast and it was really good eastern NC style BBQ…but haven’t been there in many years.

Carolina Barbecue in Newland used to be good. They used to offer both eastern and western NC style BBQ. Not sure if they are still open but the website is still up.

Ridgewood BBQ, Bluff City, TN. Best I ever had, but, I haven't been there in many, many years. It used to be darn awesome. Hmmm there may be a road trip in the near future. You guys have my BBQ taste buds going now. Lexington has always been good for me but I do want to try JD's outside Lenoir. Friends of ours say it's really good.
I second Ridgewood in Bluff City TN.....has been there since the 1940's......only two employees ever know the sauce recipe at one time....if you go buy plenty of sauce to take home...

Since BBQ is a recurring topic on here, I felt it appropriate to share a really good BBQ I stumbled across on Saturday.
In the little town of Pembroke, Va., just outside of Blacksburg on US460, there is a place called Bluegrass BBQ. I never have very high expectations when trying a new BBQ place, but this one impressed me. The BBQ was really good and the portions were big, they had multiple good sauces and the sides were all very good. Can't comment on the desserts because I was too full. If you're ever in that area, I recommend it.
Just looked this place up.....good grief those pictures make that place look amazing.

Is there anything in Wilkesboro or Lenoir area? There is nothing in Watauga county anymore, I don't know where I can find real BBQ without driving an hour and a half.
I haven't lived down there in a dozen years, but Brushy Mountain Smokehouse used to be decent. Is that no longer the case?
It's still there, I'll have to give it a try.
It's still here and pretty decent. The funny thing is...I've eaten there 50+ times and their BBQ at a catering event is 100% better than what is served in the restaurant. Makes no sense to me, but there is a huge difference.
