That was a gift of a PK. He still had to score it, but should not have been a penalty.

Re: World Cup
All the USA needs to do is beat Iran to get in the knockout phase. But it would be nice to tie or beat the hooligans, though that seems unlikely.

Re: World Cup
Has any country ever snuck into the second round (barely) and gone on to win the Cup? A win over Iran, tie V wales and getting beaten badly by England would not bode well for us.

Re: World Cup
So, I’m correct in being happy about the US and its (their) tie (draw) — and it helps the prospects of us making it to the knockout stage?

Re: World Cup
I think Argentina comes in hyper focused to this game. It will be a make or break for them, for sure. If they win it I think it will be off a PK.

Re: World Cup
The England/USA was one of the most boring games. Even my son said it didn't live up to the hype.

Re: World Cup
Wasn't saracasm. I did find it was boring. I'm not was USMNT fan.... I wasn't hyped for this game like everyone else was. My son was hyped for the game and was expecting an upset.
The US threw everything but the kitchen sink at England and got no goals and had to settle for a tie. England lollygagged around and had the same results.
That's just my perception of the game... Now for everyone else it was a great game, as the US needed to not get blown out. I get it.

Re: World Cup
Why do you always seem to assume that the team you think should win is "lollygagging" or playing not to win when they don't perform like you expected them to? Not trying to be nasty. I just think that's a common theme by many people. There are always two teams on the field, and both are trying to win. The USMNT (not sure why you're not a fan) played an excellent game and I think that's why England struggled, not because they were "lollygagging." Just because everyone "thought" England would not have any trouble with the USA does not mean it would be true. My perception was that the game was very entertaining and well played by both teams. But that is what I was expecting. Maybe that has something to do with how we perceive things.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Sat Nov 26, 2022 10:47 amWasn't saracasm. I did find it was boring. Re: World Cup
Both teams had chances and England is atop 5 squad. The draw was a testament to the tenacity of our side not England “ lollygagging”. I’m a fan of the youth movement

Re: World Cup
France finally shook the Denmark curse off of their backs. Now 1-2-1 in the last four meetings with Denmark. Even with injuries to some key players, France is still a juggernaut of a team. The amazing thing about the state of French football is that there are 37 players that are French that are NOT playing for France in the World Cup (This is not counting those on the French National team).
Now Argentina needs to play a complete game against a heck of a Mexican team. This has the potential to be the game of the group stage. Let's see if Messi and crew can right the ship.

Re: World Cup
Iran ... USA needs to go for their jugular from the KO...can't afford to let that team hang around to strike us down at the end. An elimination by the Iranians would signal USA weakness throughout the Middle East and the entire world. Simplistic outlook? Perhaps. But real life in today's world? Very much so. USA needs to send Iran back home to their Supreme Leader with a sound defeat hung on them by the good guys!

Re: World Cup
I like our chances vs Iran. Still seems that Brail, France and Spain are a little better than everybody else.
