Guess it was just me - I have watched games with the chants and signing but this one really bothered me - those vuvuzelas were terrible

For you guys who really follow soccer - what are the reasons for not going to an official timer like every other timed sport?

That's a good question. Having watched soccer that does have an official timer, college and high school, I don't know that it's any better. I believe there is a timekeeper on the sideline who determines stoppage time. I think it's one of those, "if it's not broken, don't fix it" kinda things. I'm sure there's plenty others with better thoughts than I.

I've started to comment that soccer has more arbitrary clock tick off but the counter argument would be that football really doesn't have that much actual action. After a tackle you might see 30 or more seconds of clock tick off before another short play gets run. They probably have soccer about right other than what seems to be arbitrary with the stoppage thing. Games would probably get messy if they actually stopped the clock every time a guy hits the ground and is writhing in pain. At least games don't drag on forever due to replays and timeouts.

I think they don’t want to stop a soccer game when a team is mounting a good attack on goal. They wait til the possession changes or the ball goes out and then say it’s over. Kind of like in the old days on the gridiron when the ref had the play clock (no display for everybody to see). If the offense was hustling to get the play off they’d let it go even if it was a couple of seconds over. But that was in the day before we got pass happy and games started lasting 3-4 hours.

Now that they have the video, they are measuring offsides by the inch, not by the obvious. Troubling. But I understand. Offsides is offsides.

It's amazing how much quicker they get reviews done than the NFL does.

Morrocco did a great job today. That was impressive....... And Portugal.... 6 to 1 over a good Swiss team and did so without Ronaldo.

They appear to be better without Renaldo.

8 left. Can anyone of them win it? I’d say maybe but Morocco, Croatia and Argentina are the long shots?

So is United, but don’t try to tell Renaldo that, he’ll throw a fit.
Give 'em hell!

i think you mean 3 min for commercials after every kickoff, punt, score, or possession change.

I'm with you on those two picks. I'm hoping Croatia can pull off a miracle (not a fan of Brazil)... but I just don't see it.

Croatia and Brazil are both VERY good. I can see this match going to nil-nil PKs.

Croatia is good but they like the overall skill and the depth that Brazil has. Brazil's subs are starters on just about any other team in this world cup. Just gotta be smart. So far Croatia is holding their own.
