Good news for our mountains.

There are still hemlocks of all sizes in my neighborhood which is at 4000 feet and I have found a few beetles on trees which is awesome. It was originally thought that they wouldn't be able to spread their range but the nearest know release is several miles away.

I've done some previous reporting on HWA. It's crazy how it can kill a fully healthy Hemlock in as little as 4 years. Successfully implementing the lari bettle to curb HWA is a big deal.

Concerns about the bettles are that it's still an invasive species and that it won't die out easily if HWA is wiped out.

One of the long-term hopes I heard about was to breed HWA-resistant hemlocks, but that's decades away.
