My dad, 17 at the time, was at work when the radio news interrupted Tommy Dorsey , 80 years ago this date. He knew what he had to do .Island to Island , no fear of death."I accepted as fact that I would never go home" .Yet he did , kill or be killed , with nightmares until his end , seeing the blood of his lost buddies seeping into the sand....

A date which will live in infamy!! My dad served in the Aleutian Island campaign. The greatest generation deserves all the respect we can give them. Not many left these days. Hope our children and grandchildren don't ever have to endure another war especially one like that one was.

Ive been to the Arizona Memorial; and have seen the oil still leaking from the ship. Hard to describe my emotions seeing the oil.

Too often people forget that our main fighting was in the Pacific theatre instead of the European theatre. I've got a friend who has been to China and went to the memorial in Nanjing while there. Said it was about as impactful as the Auschwitz museum as they kept many some of the weapons and had on display a katana that was used for head chopping competitions between Japanese soldiers who used Chinese civilians to see who could chop off the most heads. Just an incredible difference between the two theatres.
