He had that voice issue that kept him from the network jobs, but he was a heck of a good analyst. I learned something whenever I watched games he was on.

Yeah, his voice was terribly raspy, but he always was a great analyst doing our games. I enjoyed him on the broadcasts

You are correct. I believe he may have been calling the game where Armanti trucked that guy from GaSo in Statesboro, but could be wrong. Wikipedia says he was calling in 2007.

He said some very complimentary things about our game atmosphere and also our facilities on a couple of the broadcasts that I heard.

Sam represented a lot of what I find to be good about sports , football of course but athletics in general.I had the opportunity to speak with him on occasion. Humble. Kind. Great sense of humor.( I may have played a little joke on him )That’s what I will remember.
