Best Live Music Experience --- PART 2

Unread post by WVAPPeer » Wed Feb 20, 2019 2:24 pm

OK - many of us have listed those that we have seen - this thread is for those we WISHED we had seen - No wrong answers here guys ---
Many of us are from different generations and I would expect the lists to be varied but all interesting ---
Unfortunately way too many from my generation never made it to their 30s and there were so many I would have loved to have seen - Jim Morrison and The Doors, Janis Joplin, Jimi,
Here goes - those I would have loved to witnessed in person -
The Beatles (of course)
The Stones
The Who
Queen
Elton John
Earth, Wind and Fire
Bob Seger
Journey
"Montani Semper Liberi"

Bob Dylan. I went to his performance at Varsity, but he was not really there.

Bruce Springsteen.

I should have added Springsteen to my list - as for Dylan, I appreciate his music more over the last years more so than during the 60s-70s ---

Top 3 big shows no particular order:

Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds in the Holmes Dome
AC/DC
Garth Brooks (twice)

Small venue:
Eric Church - Coyote Joes
Travis Tritt Acoustic - Coyote Joes

Randy Rogers Band, Reckless Kelly, Robert Earl Keen - 1 night only, Lincoln Theater Raleigh.

Hootie & Blowfish - Orange Peel, just when Darrius was starting to go solo.

Too many others to mention.

EDIT: just realized I posted the above in the wrong thread.

Wish I could have of seen the Beatles, Hendrix and the Stones in their prime. Also the Audrey Williams Carvan of Stars with Hank Sr, Walon & Merle among others.

I would like to see Fleetwood Mac one more time WITH Lindsey Buckingham. Oh Well... is my only thought now to quote an old FM song.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

You don't have to have singing ability to make it big. Dylan couldn't sing a lick but he sure could write a song. Jagger can't sing at all, never could, but he could strut and put on a show. Some don't know when to quit. Willie, Neil Young and Stevie Nicks need to give it up - at one time all three were the best. Now, Willie can't get his breath, Stevie voice is shot and Neil embarrasses himself trying to sing.

In no order:
1) Dylan's first Newport
2) Doc's first Newport
3) Agnostic Front/Beastie Boys/ Misfits/ or Ramones at CBGB
4) Sex Pistols jamming and learning from the Roan Mountain Hilltoppers at the Birchfield's home in East Tennessee.... later sampled by Eminem
5) Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova when they had chemistry
6) Austin City limits with Glen and Marketa aka swell season with the guest appearance of Daniel Johnston
7) Jeff Buckley in chi town for the 1995 Mystery White Boy tour at Cabaret Metro
8) This

9) John Hartford any freaking time he played.
10) John Prine House of Strombo

I always wanted to see the original Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Recently, I saw an old movie clip staring "Joe Dirt" (I know, I know, just bear with me here) where he went back in a time warp and met Skynyrd before they became famous. He was trying to help them come up with a new name for the band (they were the WildCats at the time), I got a chuckle out of the scene:

Didn't know if you had seen my post from the original thread but my "little" brother made it to Woodstock - At family gatherings of our younger cousins he is still adorned with being the only family member to witness rock history --- :D

My hippie cousin was actually at Woodstock and she said the only act that really rocked the joint was Ten Years After. Watching the film of the event I have to concur. I'll say Woodstock for Ten Years After's set. Others:

Lynyrd Skynyrd
Marshall Tucker Band
Bob Seger
Hank Williams Sr.
Jerry Lee Lewis
Rolling Stones
Linda Ronstadt
AC/DC

Ten Years After was ahead of their time. By the way, no pun intended.

Saw her at Carowinds, mid to late 70's. Music was good but she got really pissed and distracted by the train that ran by the pavilion. She would stop and curse every time it came by and they finally stopped the train until the show was over. By then though she had completely lost the audience. Many went in a fan and came out not so much.

I saw Ronstadt at Carrowinds as well. Seem to remember that a moth flew into her mouth during one song.

I always wish I would have seen The Allman Brothers Band.

Several of you put Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band on here. It is not too late to see them. I got tickets today for their 16 May 19 show in Charlotte. I saw Seger in 1981 and 1993 also and look forward to this one. They are going to be in Raleigh on 23 May 19 also.
