Thoughts?

On the surface this seems like a over-handed response but I would need to know more about the event to say for sure.

Of course this leads one to believe that when the ancient Romans start complaining about Toga parties these too may get shut down and we wont get to see Bluto and friends any longer.

Geico picked the only remaining "group" that it's safe to stereotype. Cavemen are just SOL. That was truly brilliant imo.

In a word, YES.

Too many people these days are too easily offended. I believe people who are so easily offended are also very insecure. We are becoming a nation of sissies in so many ways.

While I was at App, I attended all kinds of themed parties. The most racist of course being the annual "MLK" parties on MLK day where everyone drinks 40's and smokes black and milds. I know for a fact that every major university in this state does this and it is significantly more racist than an asian theme.

People need to toughen up. I don't see how we get any international respect with such glass-jawed BS all the time. "United States of the Offended."

I will say that if there's any school where you might not want to make fun of asians, its Duke.

I am probably the most non PC oriental person around. I get elbowed by my wife, when I use the term oriental. I could care less if that frat wanted to do oriental night. I would probably go and dress as Emperor Hirohito. I would definitely rent an Isuzu to show up at the party. Maybe even put a camera around my neck.

By the way, my favorite mixed drink is a kamikaze, and that's no joke.

Agreed, and that's likely why they chose white cavemen.

For some reason, people believe they have a right to not be offended.

I get offended when someone gets offended by something I say that has absolutely no reference to what they are offended by. :!: lol
As an aside, I suspect that many, if not most people who say they are offended (in the media especially)by relatively benign comments are simply trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill and find some way to seek either sympathy or monetary reward or both.

We have been a nation of hyper sensitivity for a long time. Everyone is looking for a reason to get his/her feelings hurt. I am a firm believer in being respectful...even to other institutions, but honestly I rarely get bent out of shape about anything. I understand certain extremely negative stereotypes being offensive....especially when they are used as a thin veil for actual discrimination. The problem is that we can't even acknowledge another person's difference (race, religion, ethnicity, national origin) in some settings without it being distorted. How can I learn anything about another person's perspective, if I can't acknowledge their perspective is different?

I guess if people had been coming to the party in black face, I could see an issue because of the underlying discrimination but I just don't see any "mean spiritedness" in wearing Asian clothes and saying "hello" with an "r" instead of an "l" sound (spell check wouldn't let me type it without changing it to hero). Are they afraid that we might accidently give one of these pretenders a job because we suddenly think they are good in math?

For the record, "redneck" is not unique to the south. It is a rural thing and they are EVERYWHERE. The South didn't invent rednecks. We just perfected them. :D
