Tonight sees the App State men's basketball team back in action when they visit the Bobcats of Texas State for an 8:30 PM ET contest in Strahan Coliseum in San Marcos, TX.

The Apps are 6-17 overall, 4-8 in Sunbelt Conference play--good for an 8th place tie with South Alabama in league standings. The Apps have lost three consecutive very winnable games. Texas State has dropped five straight tilts and enters the game with a 9-12 overall record and 3-9 mark in Sun Belt play---good for 10th place in the standings.

Of the four meetings between the two institutions, three have ended with an App State victory. The first meeting this season saw the Mountaineers jump out to a 30-8 lead on their way to a 20-point win. The only victory for the Bobcats in the all-time series was on Dec. 23, 2010 in Cancun, Mexico during the Cancun Governor's Cup by the score of 79-68.

The Apps enter tonight's play with an RPI ranking of #268. Tx State checks in at #292. Nonetheless, Tx State is favored to get the monkey off their backs with a five to seven point win. It's clear that both teams desperately need a win. Someone will break a losing streak before the clock strikes midnight.

In the prelim, the Lady Mountaineers, winners of three of their last four games and in a four-way tie for 5th place in Sun Belt play, will take on the Lady 'Cats of Tx State at 6:30 PM ET. Mountaineer super soph, Madi Story, has been on a tear of late. She will look to lead her team to a win over the 'Cats to break up the SBC fifth place logjam.

I don't know why, but after looking at that picture, I have an uncontrollable urge to listen to some Pink Floyd.

Another one point loss. This is getting really frustrating to listen/watch.

Tough loss, even worse after we forced the turnover yet couldn't get a point with ten seconds on the clock.

A win Saturday would help but next weekend with Troy and USA in Boone will go along way to determine our fate as to the tournament. Currently, we are on the outside looking in. It didn't help that USA won last night.

I've been too bummed out to even comment on last night's game. I am, however, a firm believer that a team like ours, with a shrewd and cagey coach like Jim Fox, will make someone pay for these "character building" losses before the season ends. I'm also a firm believer that our kids will be even better for these experiences next season.

And as you stated above, Jerry; they need to get started really, really soon. Like on Saturday night in Arlington! The Mav's beat us by 4 at HCC earlier in the season in a game that saw only J.Eaves scoring in double-figures. We need four in double figures to win Sat. PM. That's not as unlikely now as it once was. Still, it's a tall order in an unfriendly arena.

The close losses are painful. Since conference play started, really since the UNC game, we have had an uncanning knack for playing to our competition. That is what has made conference play so frustrating to me.
