On this date a year ago, Jim Fox's Apps were 3-6. They'll tip off tonight's game in Lafayette, LA at 2-10; after shooting miserable percentages in Wednesday's game against UL-M (32% from the floor and 19% from the arc). That performance, along with the current seven (7) game winless streak have them at Appalachian's worst-ever RPI ranking of #345 of 351 Division I teams.

Coach Fox was uncharacteristically dejected in his post-game show comments Wednesday night--clearly disappointed with the situation.- Other coaches might launch into wild tirades, but Fox has to take a measured approach with a young team that's already suffering from an extreme lack of confidence. So, tonight may see yet another starting line-up. As many as three freshmen could get a starting nod. Nothing to lose at this point. Gotta find five guys who want to compete.

By the numbers and power rankings, UL-L is a 15 point favorite. That's a bit surprising--but thinkable because the Apps have absolutely no answer for the Ragin' Cajuns' 6-9 Shawn Long, the Sun Belt's pre-season POY.

Tip-off tonite is at 8:15. DJ's pre-game show airs at 7:30.

Somebody guard Washington. He's shooting 4 for 5. Long hasn't been a factor so far, but others are picking up the slack.

Suddenly Long's gettin' it together. We're gettin' our butts kicked--again.

ULL and ULM are Sun Belt preseason 1-2. Doesn't make it any easier though.

Cajuns 79, Apps 58 Final

This makes it four straight blowout losses since a credible performance at Texas. Starters Burgess and O'Boyle along with reserves Clarke and Babic were a combined 0 for14 from the floor.

Babic led the team in assists with 2...two. Seriously, two assists for the entire team in 40 minutes of play. :(

We have to be the slowest starting team in the country. We seem to come out of the gate so slowly, fall behind by double digits, and the game is over by halftime.

This team will get better eventually, but its anyone's guess as to when that will be. Brutal start to the season, and Sun Belt play. Tyrell Johnson is making strides. Was really hoping to see more flashes out of Shabazz by now.

In my life-time the only seasons App is a top 150 RPI team is when we have a good to great PG that is also a scoring threat.

I'd start there.

Va Tech demonstrated last night what can happen when you make the right hire. The challenge for Coach Fox is to recruit the kind of players that can run his offense and compete in the SBC.
