Heard we are playing Texas and North Carolina next year. I would personally rather not play North Carolina. Anything out there about other non conference games (particularly home games)? Do we have a return game with Charlotte in Boone? Would love to have a decent team or two come to Holmes.

Last year in Charlotte was the second leg of the home and home with UNCC.

The road games at Texas and Chapel Hill I believe are within three days of each other the week before Christmas. We go to Hofstra the first Saturday of December. We host Jacksonville and Furman as well. so that's five games right there.

Jacksonville and Furman are not going to get anyone excited. Sounds like another typical schedule. A couple of big names on the road and a few yawners at home.

These are return games from last year as we played both those teams on the road. How likely are we going to lure someone above our current status to Boone? I certainly prefer those two to sub D1 programs.

We have to get our RPI out of the 200s before we can schedule good mid-major programs to home and homes.

I'd like to limit our schedule to one non-D1 game and get at least two OOC Saturday home games. With this terrible 20 game conference slate and weak RPI the last three years that's the best we can hope for given the current situation.

I think it will get better under Fox though.

I'd hope we could lure SOMEONE of halfway decent stature to Boone. It's happened before, albeit not frequently enough. I wish we'd try to set up a regular series with Davidson, but I don't think Fox wants that.

As far as playing D2 teams, I wouldn't mind playing one or two a year in lieu of too many bottom-of-the-barrel D1 teams like Furman and Jacksonville (and yes, I realize we're currently in that category too). Thing is, D2 teams don't factor into RPI, whereas playing terrible D1 teams can hurt your RPI even if you win.

Does anyone remember if Ohio was a home and home, or just a one off game?

Perhaps, but I'll come to see us play another D1 opponent but I won't bother to make the three hour trip to see us play a D2 opponent and I'd guess that's true of others.

Ohio was a one and done. They draw very well for hoops (8-10k) so they can afford it.

I don't know if Hampton was a one and done or a home and home, so we might be going there.

We have played Georgia Tech, Georgia, and Nebraska at home as well as North Carolina. Why could we not at least get Virginia Tech or a comparable school to come to Boone? Look at the home scheduled of other mid majors. They can get some decent home games.

what is the three year average of the RPI for the teams you're looking to compare us to?

GA Tech was because of Cremins and Nebraska was an Apke connection. Why would someone like VA Tech risk coming here? I would assume that lack of those type teams coming to Boone is not from lack of trying.

Many games at many institutions (not just at ASU) get scheduled because of friendships or contacts. Someone knows someone who knows someone else. Bingo, conversations take place and deals result...home and home series; or two for one series; or one shot deals; or games several years ahead so as to make the odds as neutral as possible for both teams (when graduation or attrition has created 100 percent turnover in both rosters).

It helps to have a very diverse and highly experienced athletic department staff. When an institution's staff has become too inbred, networking contacts and experiences can be very limited.

Then, of course, there's the issue of guarantees. Many high profile and highly successful teams will go just about anywhere to play; but the first question they ask is, "Show me the money!" Then it's Catch 22--if you don't draw well, then you don't have the resources to pay big guarantees. And round and round you go...

When I was a student we had home games vs. a top 25 UNCC team and Georgia in back-to-back years, and that was when we were in Varsity Gym. Wish we could get some games like that. Obviously the ones like GT and UNC are one-offs for special occasions, but there's a lot of ground between those teams and Jacksonville.

Love the idea of trying to call in a favor and bring in Mizzou. Don't know if they'd do it, but it's worth a call.

Looks like we are playing UNC on Dec 21st in CH. They announced their non-conference schedule today.

UNC will play host to seven non-ACC regular-season games at the Smith Center, including Fairfield (Nov. 15) and Wofford (Nov. 18) in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic, Maryland (Dec. 1) in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge, Davidson (Dec. 6), Tulane (Dec. 16), Appalachian State (Dec. 21) and UNCG (Dec. 28).
