It's SunBelt #2 Georgia State v. #7 AppState this afternoon. GaState's Panthers will be looking for a little payback for their January upset loss to the Apps at HCC. As it has come to pass, that loss has served to keep either Georgia Southern or Louisiana-Monroe in first place in SunBelt standings; a sharp thorn in the Panthers' paws. After all, the official script had the Panthers running away with the conference title since last season came to an end.

So this afternoon, the two teams who now seem to be headed in opposite directions, clash on the GaState home hardwood. The RPI #79 Panthers (18-8, 11-4 Sun Belt) are heavy 20 point favorites over the RPI #274 Apps (9-15, 6-9 Sun Belt). GaState has won three of their four games this month--including three in a row. The cold-shooting Apps, in contrast, have won only one of their February contests and are on a three game skid.

This is the Apps' last road game of the season. They return to campus late tonight to begin preparation for four straight home contests to end the season.

Guys, I'm off to the indoor track to get my walking in for the day. I'll have DJ's broadcast in my ear, but I won't be online until after the game. This one could get ugly if GaState is running on all cylinders. Do what you can to pull our guys through; and I'll be doing the same.

I'm shooting for four miles today. Here goes...

Apps trail early 19-8. Apps seem not have rid themselves of their turnover fever. Ga State shooting 80% to App State's 30%.

26-8, now 7 turnovers. App shooting 17%.

44-13 at the half. This team seems to have really seen the wheels fall off. Same old problem from the last several games can't shoot, can't defend, and continually turn it over.

Division 2 level talent at best, boys against men.

Georgia State come out with a half-court trap and with their athletes, we couldn't respond. Credit to their coach Ron Hunter as he didn't let his team sit back in a zone like last time.

We're limping badly, but at least the team is now at home from here on in.

We have cut the lead to 47 points. There's that.

According to G-State's radio guy, App fans were cocky up in Boone and they're still sore about the fake field goal after the three timeouts they called.

G-State's head coach Ron Hunter said afterward that from the moment they won on Thursday to right before tip-off today, he replayed the game from Boone to the point his players were sick of it. He even has reminded them of the game in the last month when he felt they were slacking.

They deserved the fake after the time-outs, and a different sport but so be it.

Good coaching as far as I am concerned in the 2nd paragraph. Motivation is one part of coaching.

The UNCC of Georgia still can't distinguish the round ball from the fools' ball.

Our brand new bball team has some work to do, but they're Super Bowl-ready compared to Georgia State football.

Yeah, revenge for a different sport, that's a new one. Bet our hoops team starts winning before their football team.

Side note: Their gym looks very small time. Much better than if they played in the Atlanta Hawks gym though.

Perhaps, but the whopping they put on us was not small time. It is amazing where they have come and where we have gone since that game in Boone. That really is our only quality win of the season.

They certainly whopped us tonight, but I wouldn't trade our football program for their basketball program (their radio guy's comparison, not mine). And I wouldn't trade our interim AD for their AD.

From http://www.appstatesports.com/ViewArtic ... =209900895

the Mountaineers’ 43 points were their lowest since a 78-43 loss at Texas on Jan. 2, 2009 ... the 44-point margin of defeat was the most since a 76-32 loss at St. Bonaventure on Jan. 7, 1995 ... the 13 first-half points were the fewest in a single half since the Apps scored nine in the first half of a 69-37 loss at Virginia Tech on Dec. 10, 2006 ... Georgia State finished with a 40-18 edge in the paint and a 21-5 advantage on the fast break ...

GA St has always been 20 points better than App this year which speaks to Fox's potential. GA St has done it with transfers and that well could run dry. They are the best team and would represent the SBC well, maybe even win a game with the right matchup.

Looking forward to seeing Fox with two more classes.
