Way too many fouls called in this game. College basketball is hard to watch sometimes. Let them play.

Seems to be the theme this year. Our game versus Hampton had 55 total fouls. There is no flow when there is more than a foul a minute.Saint3333 wrote:Way too many fouls called in this game. College basketball is hard to watch sometimes. Let them play.

Yep. A lot of touch fouls that didn't really impact shots or positioning too. In the end though, I don't think fouls lost us this one! Started strong but got flat half way through the 1st quarter.

Not saying the fouls cost us. The refs called way too many on both sides. Just a pet peeve at the college level. Hard to watch any game called that way.

At the game. I was impressed with APP's play. Tech was just too tall for us, they went over our heads several times.
Coach Fox is active on the sideline, has a good defensive stance.

Was there at the game as well. Good showing of App fans. Chris Burgess sees the lanes well and not afraid to drive the ball. We seemed hesitant to shoot at times but I think that was due to GT's height.
Jim Fox is a coach. Don't think I saw him sit the entire game. Got a warning in the second half a terrible call. Great to see the fire in him. App basketball is in good hands with Fox.

A group of us were at the game last night and I must say that at least the Apps hustled to the end. They had way to many touch fouls called against them in the first half and had a few turnovers that really hurt. Tech was much bigger in the paint and had a deeper bench and that was the difference. That said, I thought his App team looked more fundamentally sound than the last couple of years. Chris Burgess was like the Everyready bunny and Tommy Spagnolo really battled the big boys. I was surprised at the small crowd...looked like about 2000 in an 8000+ arena. A decent number of App fans were in attendance.

I was at the game last night as well. I don't pretend to be all knowing about basketball, but one thing I noticed that I just couldn't believe is allowed. The entire first half of the game when App was on offense, the GA Tech head coach was at least 3 feet on the court almost the entire time. He was clearly in the refs sight. Since when is the coach allowed to be on the court, especially when the other team is on offense in front of your bench. It didn't happen but I was hoping one of the App players would run over him to see if the refs would call anything. I noticed in the second half when each team was on offense in front of their own bench this did not occur. Any thoughts or is this something that is looked over by the refs now.

I noticed that too and I'm surprised he didn't get called on it considering he was jumping around and waving his arms 3-4 feet onto the court often within inches of our players. I too was hoping one of our players would come off a pick and flatten him.AtlantaMountaineer wrote:I was at the game last night as well. Yes it really screws up a game. I have stopped watching a game for that reason.Saint3333 wrote:Not saying the fouls cost us. The refs called way too many on both sides. Just a pet peeve at the college level. Hard to watch any game called that way.

It depends on the individual ref teams. If the coach gets in the way they will warn then next time lower the hammer. I have asked players and they have said they don't care.SpeedkingATL wrote:I noticed that too and I'm surprised he didn't get called on it considering he was jumping around and waving his arms 3-4 feet onto the court often within inches of our players. There's a fine line between too many fouls and preventing muggings though. I just don't subscibe to the no blood no foul philosophy. It can be tough figuring out where to draw that line but I agree, yesterday it was too heavily regulated.Saint3333 wrote:Not saying the fouls cost us. The refs called way too many on both sides. Hope to see a great crowd Thursday at App's (M) basketball against UNCC. Tip off is at 8:00 and we will meet at Taco Mac University at 6:00 pm for happy hour. Had a great crowd with over 30 at the BarrelHouse last night prior to the GT game....a nice crowd at McCamish Pavilion supporting our boys too. So great to see so many Atlanta Alumni! Now..... Charlotte and surrounding Alumni, let's double or tripple or the Atlanta group! Coach Fox is great and our boys are working hard!
