According to multiple sources in the Twitterverse, PG Devonte' Graham (6-0, 150) of Broughton High School in Raleigh has committed to Appalachian State. In addition to us, Graham held offers from East Carolina, Gardner-Webb, High Point, Jacksonville, Rhode Island, Richmond, UNC-Wilmington and Western Kentucky. Appears to have picked us over East Carolina and Richmond. ESPN.com rates him a two-star prospect, although analysts like Dave Telep and others in the Raleigh area hold him in considerably higher regard.

Thus far Coach Capel seems to be getting some good results on the recruiting trail.

But only in the back court. By my count we have signed 8-9 back court players for this year and next and 2- 3 front court players. Most of our back court now are Fr. & So.

From former college coach and current ESPN recruiting analyst Reggie Rankins:

http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/ncbrecr ... hian-state" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

"Appalachian State got a good one in point guard Devonte Graham (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton).

Of all the players I watched compete over the spring and summer Graham was one of the most consistent bright spots and he got better as the travel season went on. In the spring, Graham was terrific at the Bob Gibbons Tournament in Atlanta and again in July at the adidas Invitational in Indianapolis against great perimeter competition.

Graham pushes the ball with great pace and can finish at the rim if the transition defense is not organized and communicating. He delivers the ball on time and on target at high speeds when the defense attacks him and he can knock down the midrange jumper or 3 off the catch or dribble without hesitation."

Graham, along with 3-star SG Aaron Scott and PG Ty Toney is an impressive haul for 2013. Considering that Mike Neal and Tab Hamilton will still have two years remaining when they get on campus, we should have one of the stronger backcourts in the SoCon.

I do agree that we will be very guard heavy and need to get some beef. That being said, this is definitely good news and I like our chances at creating some match-up problems in the future.
