Why is it???

That it seems every other school in America can fire (or say we're not renewing his contract) and hire another basketball coach in a matter of days, but Appalachian has to take weeks to initiate, work through and complete its process? We're two days into the third week without a basketball staff, much less coach. Many schools, and not just the big boys, seem to make their changes within a week.
Why should I take the program seriously, if this position is left to sit idle for over half a month? Am I being too harsh? I usually try not to be, but there has to be something I'm missing. I hope.

Our last basketball coaching search just took one weekend. Heck, Cobb's last coaching search (football) took 11 days.
As much as we all love App State, it isn't a job for anyone right now. Cobb has to do this one right. He knows it. He said right on March 10th after he let Capel go that it would be a dleiberate process to find the right guy.
Also, not everyone is quicker than we are. Here's a detailed list of the carousel.

I'm not aware that CC's appointed an interim coach. Who's looking after the kids? Somebody had better be doing that in spades. It would be awfully easy for some of our young lions to go astray--again!

Well - I'm not sure any of us know what is/has/will happen or what is going on in the background - I haven't checked this out but have any of the new coaches that have been announced associated with a team which is still playing? --- I doubt many knew of VT target of Buzz Williams --- Look, I don't know Charlie Cobb personally and have never really spoken with him so I have no personal attachment BUT to think this man didn't/doesn't have a plan and strategy is naïve. He is a professional who knows how the game is played ---

It may say that we haven't had a home run candidate appear. It may say those we have sought out aren't interested. I understand the need to make sure the choice is a good one after the last effort. However, I would think there has been enough time to evaluate who has shown interest in the job. Otherwise, it says to me we are struggling to find the right guy.

Those are plausible answers. I don't have to like them, but they're plausible.

There is one obvious conclusion....the guy we want and are going to hire is still playing!

if thats true...first beers are on me...cause i think its more that we are at the bottom of the list and maybe some of the guys we like are getting multiple looks. i really dont think we're looking all over...just regionally and the schools left from what has been mentioned dont have any candidates which we were looking at...but hey...maybe krzyzewski is open for contact...get it done and get those recruits who mentioned release on board asap! otherwise we risk the chance of slipping even more...if thats possible!

Unfortunately, another option is that possible candidates are looking at all their options. We are not a particularly attractive place to land right now (basketballwise) so they may be holding out to see what other schools might become available.
Hate saying that about our basketball program, but it just seems to be the way it is right now. Reminds me of when I was in school and Maravich was coach. We were fortunate then to get Cremins, and hope we are fortunate again.

That is what I am afraid of....but I am hopeful! I just missed Maravich and was spoiled by Cremins!
I'd like to be spoiled again!

Was dating a young lady who went to NCSU in 1072 and went to the game at State.....130-52 was not a lot of fun. At least we haven't sunk that far!

It's clear to me, CC want's a "group" to pick the next coach so he can say "I didn't pick him the committee did", but if it does work out he can still take credit.

It is his motus operandi. We all know he hired Capel because that is who the players wanted.

Could be because we're interested in one or more coaches whose teams are still playing.
Could be that we've made an offer and are waiting on an answer.
Could be that Cobb wants to use the NABC convention at the Final Four as an opportunity to make contacts and/or conduct interviews.
Could be that Cobb has his guy but wants to give the impression of an extended search.
Regardless, I don't think the non-immediate hire is reason for concern. As previously noted, we're in the majority there. I'm more concerned about who we hire than when we hire him.
