We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

MBB: Wofford @ App State
OK, here we go Mountaineer fans. We've been fed a steady diet of SoCon bottom-feeders in recent weeks as in...GaSouth, UNC-G, Samford and El Cid. Next up...tomorrow afternoon is probably the best team in the SoCon not named Davidson; the team coached by the best coach in the SoCon not named McKillop. That team is Wofford; that coach is Mike Young.
Wofford (RPI #181) is 12-10 on the season and 7-3 in the Southern Conference; while ASU (RPI #343) is 8-16 overall, and 4-7 in the SoCon. Wofford is led by All-SoCon junior guard Karl Cochran and last year's All-SoCon Frosh guard Spencer Collins. The Terriers have gnashed ankles of eight straight foes--only seven if you discount a cupcake win over D-III equivalent Hiwassee. Still, the Terriers have won handily over UNC-G, Western Carolina, Furman, Samford, El Cid and twice over GaSouth. That's a long & strong run w/o a hiccup. And that's both a problem and an opportunity for ASU tomorrow/Sat. afternoon. They can lay down and get mauled by the Terrier pack; or they can bring an end to the Ankle-Biter's win streak.
Our Apps struggled against Samford--even with the Bulldog's poor shooting afternoon and with four Mountaineers scoring in double figures. It'll take more than that to beat Mike Young's Terriers. The recent strong play from Tom Spagnolo and Ty Toney has stabilized a shaky squad. Continued strong play from Chris Burgess and Tab Hamilton will be important and the bench will have to contribute both points and boards. Oh, and it would certainly help if Michael Obacha would hit some foul shots. He's a genuinely nice young man and an asset to the team's GPA and low post; but he's a real adventure on the FT line.
I count this as a winnable game. Our kids have gained some confidence and Wofford is due for an off-afternoon sooner or later. Perhaps this is the weekend for their bubble to burst.

I don't pretend to be able to pick the winner, but I predict less than 300 fans in attendance.

I don't know if you guys realize this, but there was a foot of snow on the ground, the game was moved up three hours to 4 o'clock on a Thursday, no band, no cheerleaders, and no dance team. Roads in Boone were bad enough to cancel classes.

How many students do you think were on campus at the time of the game?BurlingtonApp wrote:I don't know if you guys realize this, but there was a foot of snow on the ground, the game was moved up three hours to 4 o'clock on a Thursday, no band, no cheerleaders, and no dance team. My how times have changed. Back in my college years I remember going to games with a foot of snow on the ground more than once. The again we had a head coach with the last name Cremins too.BurlingtonApp wrote:I don't know if you guys realize this, but there was a foot of snow on the ground, the game was moved up three hours to 4 o'clock on a Thursday, no band, no cheerleaders, and no dance team. Alright, this is way down the list on things wrong with our basketball program but if we're going to "televise" games can we move the camera to the other side or turn the "A" around. It just looks silly upside down.

Cobb and co did that to try to get the crews to shoot the student section and put the A facing the benches. All TV crews will unless it is physically impossible will shoot on the side op of the benches. Need to go back to the VG court with the double Block A's.goapps93 wrote:Alright, this is way down the list on things wrong with our basketball program but if we're going to "televise" games can we move the camera to the other side or turn the "A" around. That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.
Re: MBB: Wofford @ App State
Another loss. Capel "looked" disgusted with the questions at the end of the game.
We had a chance to win but went 5 for 15 in the second half from the field. In the last two minutes they looked APPsolutely lost in the front court.
I guess I am going to Asheville for a vacation.
And stupid me, I can still see some hope with the kids we have.....Why do I still see hope?

Getting a new floor for next season. Wonder who'll get input into the design? Capel or Coach X?goapps93 wrote:Alright, this is way down the list on things wrong with our basketball program but if we're going to "televise" games can we move the camera to the other side or turn the "A" around. Our kids played well enough to make it an interesting game; but also an exasperating game. Soooo close, but soooo far away.
We missed enough FT's (8) to win the game; got out-rebounded by 6; and gave up 16 turnovers. Wofford had 21 points off those turnovers. Our team was unconscious during at least a half-dozen out-of-bounds plays and apparently ignored Capel on numerous occasions by doing their own thing rather than running the plays he called in the huddle or from the sideline. He was livid--but that didn't change any behaviors.
Four games remain in the regular season; three of the four are on the road. Not a good omen for earning a bye. Desperately needed this one today.

THats a good question. This season can't end fast enough and I cannot wait until I read Capel is no longer the head coach at App.

There's no 100% guarantee that CC and his Carolina Blue donors won't come up with another loser. It would be hard to do any worse, but you never know.Seattleapp wrote:asutrnr81 wrote:Another loss. Capel "looked" disgusted with the questions at the end of the game.

I wasn't joking. All my friends consider me an optimist, but so many things are happening in athletics these days, that it's hard to keep being one.

Capel is partly responsible for Cobb still being in Boone. Hard to think he will entertain their input this time around. Cobb is a football guy. He needs to enlist the services of a basketball insider. Surely he has run across someone during his career he can trust.JCline0429 wrote:There's no 100% guarantee that CC and his Carolina Blue donors won't come up with another loser.
