Offseason thread: recruiting, transfer portal schedule, general discussion
Thought we could start a thread to cover all the topics being discussed on different threads. As of now, Dodd, Jennings and Tot are out of Eligibility. Those eligible to return are starters Marcus and Wilson; contributors Banks, Moodie and Brim, along with Clarke and Njock who had minimal playing time. Vasser, who was expected to be an impact player will be back from injury. Neal and McKinnon are two freshmen that could become contributors next season. There are 0 commits coming in as freshmen next season as of now. Assuming Wilson chases the money, we're looking at bringing in a big and at probably 2 guard/wing players that can start. Assuming starters will be Marcus, Banks, and Vasser. Maybe some of the other guys can improve enough to crack the starting lineup.

I'll set the over/under of new starters next season at 4 and returning players at 7.

I will take a push on the new starters next season and take the under on returning players. When is the last time basketball returned 7 players? Seems like lately, every year we have been replacing almost the entire team. I don't see that stopping this year.

There will be some tough decisions to make with a few. Who will be retained, cut or encouraged? Can you count on any of the reserves to become a starter? I’m not sure and lean towards no.

Re: Offseason thread: recruiting, transfer portal schedule, general discussion
Several wanted Dodd to be a reserve before this season, feel like he was the main guy to run the offense. When he went down with an injury, we were cooked. Based on this season, I’d agree, but someone like Brim or Banks, things could slow down for them and them be big time guys.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2026 3:15 pmThere will be some tough decisions to make with a few. I agree. I think Banks will take over that spot till one of the younger guys can. Once Banks started to drive more, he had more success. I actually thought that we should have played Banks more against TXST and against S. Miss. It will be interesting to see who stays. I do think we have an outside chance of keeping Luke, but we will still need some pieces. I really hope we can get back to 8-9 rotation.

Re: Offseason thread: recruiting, transfer portal schedule, general discussion
I could see Clarke and Njock leaving for more playing time and a chance to start somewhere else, but would be nice to keep them for depth if they are ok coming off the bench. It’d be amazing if Luke returned, but he’s going to be tough to retain. If we can keep Marcus, Banks, Brim, Vasser and Moodie, think we will be really good as long as we can bring in 1 or 2 Jennings/Tot type guys. Still have two freshmen that might be game ready next year. I remember when Luke was just a guy we heard stories about in practice but never made it on the court.

Rather big development. Dionte Neal has decommitted from UNCG after their MBB head coaching change. One of the best NC high school athletes in recent memory. NC Basketball Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior. Averaging over 35 PPG this season. Top football recruit too.
He wants to play both basketball and football. We offered him in both sports. App made his shortlist before he committed to UNCG. Should come down to us, UNC, and Boston College unless other schools come into the mix.
His build and play style reminds me a lot of Jordan Marsh.

If he wants to play basketball and football, why did he commit to uncg to begin with?AppGrad20 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2026 9:49 pmRather big development. Re: Offseason thread: recruiting, transfer portal schedule, general discussion
Good question. That was his intent prior to committing to UNCG. I remember seeing UNCG offered him a sizable NIL deal. Likely a big (or the main) reason why he committed there. Regardless, he said he is opening up his recruitment back up for both basketball and football. Most of his P4 offers did come from football.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2026 10:01 pmIf he wants to play basketball and football, why did he commit to uncg to begin with?AppGrad20 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2026 9:49 pmRather big development. I assume he is expecting a big NIL the second time around. How much nil does UNCG have to compete with UNC or NC (if they offered NIL first time around).AppGrad20 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2026 10:46 pmGood question. Re: Offseason thread: recruiting, transfer portal schedule, general discussion
Clarke never developed. Now going in to his junior year he won't get much of a look in the portal. He will ha e to drop down for play time. Njock is still a big dissapointment for me. He played in a high ans difficult level of U18 ball and did well. Then with the injury he still hasn't panned out. Hes a chancellor list academic. I hope he stays and truly develops this off season as hes still just a freshman this year.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2026 8:49 pmI could see Clarke and Njock leaving for more playing time and a chance to start somewhere else, but would be nice to keep them for depth if they are ok coming off the bench. I dont see Luke staying. He had a big leap from last year to this year. Plenty of teams would take a chance on his continued growth. The others listed will be role players if they stay and if we want to be competitive. Essentially, once Luke Wilson leaves we will need a new starting lineup via the portal + one of these others to develop into a starter.

Re: Offseason thread: recruiting, transfer portal schedule, general discussion
Is there any potential that Tot would stick around for another season if the JUCO eligibility rules changes?
Hoping we keep Banks, I think that injury early in the season was a tougher recovery then some realise, and his shooting was really starting to get back to his historical average by season end.

I think you just answered the question. A big pay to play offer is going to overrule wanting to play both sports unless a team offers both sports and a good pay to play deal with it.AppGrad20 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2026 10:46 pmGood question. Also, we should probably start referring to NIL as PTP (pay to play). That is exactly what it is now. The NCAA has no teeth so no reason to avoid attempting to tamper or trying to mask PTP as NIL. It is what it is. The NCAA can't do anything about it.

Njock has one year of experience after coming off a knee injury. I'd hope will give him another year to improve before giving up. Look at the improvement Dodd made this year as a Senior.appdaze wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 7:48 amClarke never developed. Now going in to his junior year he won't get much of a look in the portal. No offense to UNCG, however, if the kid that decommitted from UNCG was one of the best athletes in recent times in NC, not sure how UNCG got him in first place. If he is that good, I have to believe the Big 4 would have made a much larger offer than UNCG. Seems a little weird to me. However, people pick schools for whatever reason

It’s because he’s 5’9 170 on a good day. NIL deal with instant playing time at a place like UNCG. I would assume that’s why we were still in the mix too. Better chance to instantly be a star compared to a P4.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 10:08 amNo offense to UNCG, however, if the kid that decommitted from UNCG was one of the best athletes in recent times in NC, not sure how UNCG got him in first place. Not sure if they would get same look today. Seems to be all about the measurables.
