Imagine watching App basketball for 40 years and thinking replacing Kerns is the answer.
Good luck this offseason coach, would be a shame if you once again flirt with 20 wins, finish with a top four seed, and become App’s all-time leader in wins.

You don't fire a coach who has never had a losing season but that doesn't mean that one should be happy with certain trends that appear at season's end. The irony is that his worst regular season finish produced our only conference championship. Outside of that season we have never won more than one game in the Sun Belt tournament.

Yeah, I’m not sure where the firing thing started. I am absolutely not advocating for a coaching change.hapapp wrote: ↑Sun Mar 08, 2026 12:16 pmYou don't fire a coach who has never had a losing season but that doesn't mean that one should be happy with certain trends that appear at season's end. I am absolutely advocating for a change in the current coaching to have better success late in the season and during the tournament.

That would be a mistake, but I do think Kerns and the admin need to talk about what can be done to change our post season struggles.

Kerns has done a great job of developing guys that stick around. Look at the progression of Luke, Marcus and Dodd. If Banks and Brim stick around, I expect them to have more of an impact next season. Same with Moodie and Vasser. I have no inside knowledge but it’s hard to imagine that Luke will stay. If we can hang onto everyone else, bring up one of the other freshman and find a few gems in the transfer portal, we should continue to contend for conference championships. That’s my personal measuring stick. The goal is to win the conference and go to the dance, but as long as we are in contention late in the season and the games matter, I’m content. If Kerns sticks around he’s going to win quite a few. Looking forward to seeing what we have next season. Go App!

I am a fan of Luke given where he started at App to where he is now. I do see a power school making an offer and he may go. However, as of now, I do not see him getting that much, if any, playing time unless a team just needs the D presence and not much O needed as the team is loaded at other positions. That is current state. The kid has worked extremely hard. Assuming the work ethic continues and he gets with a great big man teaching coach and he develops offensively, I could see him getting minutes his senior year at a power school.

I would like to see us throw the money boat at next years squad. Pay to keep what we have intact as much as we can and add as necessary. We need to show support and not have them leave, can't really build greatness easily if it keeps changing each year. I think this is a year we can affordably throw the boat of money at what we have and have a year of consistency and not have to meld in too much newness. I don't know what affordably is but its much cheaper than the team a few years back because of that success. If we send the boat out and it works for the season then we know more about what Kerns can do, price point, etc and if it doesn't work then we know some limitations. etc. I don't have the money but I hope we can find it!NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Mon Mar 09, 2026 2:40 pmKerns has done a great job of developing guys that stick around. I’m hoping it won’t take a boatload. We need to pay three players: Luke Wilson, Michael Marcus Jr. and a replacement for Kasen Jennings. The other returnees aren’t going to be in high demand elsewhere.

Can’t wait to watch Luke Wilson at Auburn next year.
JK. It would be hysterical if he replaced Abson at Georgia being an Augusta kid.

I agree about the "other returnees" but expect 1 or 2 of them to have breakout seasons next year, like Dodd and Luke did this year.

Re: MBB @ JMU 2/14 4pm
On Kerns, we'd be absolutely insane to switch up. I know it's not the best execuse but in a couple of these late stretches previously we've had a myriad of challenges (injuries, illnesses, etc). Don't forget that long-ass spell out of the tournament prior to Kerns (with several other teams during the Curry years that had similar regular season success and nothing in the post-season)?
I actually feel like now would be a great time to extend Kerns by a few extra years + bump the buy-out (prior to the recruting/transfer cycle).
With so many graduates and the bench thin already it'll be a busy recruiting season...

Where is this “ money boat” we should throw? Luke has substantial value not unlike Abson , in practice and training. I can see an SEC offer of well into six figures for him.I don’t see an extension for DK this year.

Kerns has 4 years left on his contract after his 2024 extension. There's no reason to even discuss extending it now.

DK does a lot of fundraising for the program. If the “money boat” shows up, he will most likely be at the wheel.
