Re: Miami of the MAC
Not to carry the team but probably to be one of the top threats and an outside shooter. When we are talking about a small team like a basketball team, you definitely make your main offensive build around what you believe you will have as your top 7 players. I believe he would have been a 12/6/6 kind of guy his freshman year.311neers wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 9:24 pmHopefully we weren’t relying on a foreign late August commit to carry the team.appdaze wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 8:49 pmI have a feeling DK was leaning a lot on Njock bringing it on offense and has had to take a hard turn after that injury. It's always hard to tell the future from one game, but I think this team is low right now but has a really high ceiling. Give this crew 5 to 7 games to gel and find their places in the rotation/offense and I think we will be fine. You can still win a lot of college games without living and dying by the 3. It's not the nba.

My one game opinion. I would get Huntley out of the block and back to the three point line. It looked like we had some size to play down low. We are going to need his offensive shooting. Maybe we were just off tonight but I didn't see a shooter.

I don’t know X’s and O’s In basketball but whatever offensive set we run looks the same as in past years. 2, 3 and even 6 minute droughts are a real problem.

I had assumed that Dodd would be the PG off the bench to relieve Tate since he was a div 1 starter last year. He didn’t play at all. I wonder if he’s injured or in the doghouse for some reason. As hard as Tate plays, I’d hate to see him need to carry that many minutes throughout the season. The only other true PG who played was true freshman, Clarke…only 2 minutes.

Game 1. Team needs time to gel. Given all new additions, we may not know what we have until early January.

Agreed, we need someone else who can drive and dish. If we can get the ball to our big guys close to the rim, we should have some guys who can score down low.app97 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2024 9:14 amI had assumed that Dodd would be the PG off the bench to relieve Tate since he was a div 1 starter last year. Our guard play outside of Tate, was bad. Just bad. Our young bigs were the highlight to me anyway. I hope it was just an off shooting night overall. If it continues could be a long season.

Miami-O was impressive...on the road with two nationally-ranked recruiting classes and playing w/o their 7-1 soph center...they put on a bit of a BB clinic for us. The Apps, on the other hand, played BINO--Basketball In Name Only! (19 turnovers)

I think this team has potential but with so many new players, it will take a good chunk of time to figure things out.
Hopefully by the time conference games roll around, Kerns will have figured out who his best players are and his rotation.
Until then, probably going to look a bit rough.

I watched most of the game. While the result was disappointing, all of App's problems are fixable. As previously stated by others, this team needs games to gel. I have a feeling we might be looking at a different, better team come conference play.
Looking forward to watching them when they come to Atlanta to play GA State.

I hope folks are right because I was less than impressed. I realize that it will take time but I wasn't overly impressed with anyone beyond Tate. The one caveat, I didn't get a chance to see the entirety of the game.

Guards outside of Tate have to play better. Too many forced 3's and got lost on defense too often. Keep in mind several are freshmen though.

2 comments from me:
Cramps? Weird - At least 2 players maybe 3 had to go out of the game multiple times with cramps. Is that just conditioning? Got to do better there.
CJ Huntley - My own opinion and I have said this for years, someone else hinted at it above. He should be starting at 3. He is a complete mismatch when he plays 3. He can make 3 pointers, his length can disrupt a small SF on defense and it adds height. When he plays 4/5 he gets beat by heavier big men and seems to get lost on offense.

Re: Miami of the MAC
I was really disappointed in Threadgill's play. That game was his 74th starting assignment as a D-I wing/shooting guard but his success was inauspicious, at best. He shot just 30% from the floor, 14% from behind the arc and 50% from the line. He needs a reset tonight...

This game is much needed before heading to Wisconsin. I hope they see a lot of shots go in and find some flow offensively.asu66 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 2:53 pmI was really disappointed in Threadgill's play.
