Now all he needs is a team for next season or he needs to pull a Gene Hackman from Hoosiers

Re: Kerns agrees to new contract
Well, he certainly can sell his success and playing time. I’d imagine we could see 2-3 return and he should be able to add quality pieces from the portal. I have no idea if any of the freshman will have an impact like Abson did his freshman year or Marsh did this year.

Would love to see Marsh back. His list of possible landing spots was pretty weak.

Re: Kerns agrees to new contract
Great News!
Get some of these guys back from the portal, and get to work filling holes.
Have to believe that new contract has a LARGE raise and hopefully and VERY LARGE buyout.
GO APPS!!

Can't wait to see the details of his new contract and what commitments were made to improve the program.

Congrats to Coach Kerns. Great move by DG as well to make this happen. Concerned by the portal action but coach has proven himself and I trust he will keep winning moving forward.

Re: Kerns agrees to new contract
Obviously want him to stay thru the extension as he's flipped this program around. But, excited to see the buyout number someone will pay us when he wins 30 games next year.appstate24 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2024 10:58 amGreat News!

Great News!!!
This is a very good move on DG's part to reassure everybody that Kerns has a commitment. Kerns can move forward knowing he has a security blanket and a longer runway. This should also help him with commitments from players.
Like said above, see if he can pull back in some of these players back.

I think once the CoC job was filled, there wasn't going to be an opening that had mutual interest.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2024 11:53 amGreat News!!!

Re: Kerns agrees to new contract
what are we thinking? $500k base
I think with the guaranteed supplementary that would push him into the upper 600s

Re: Kerns agrees to new contract
I am thinking it has to be around 700k base. The goal was to make him the highest paid in the Sun Belt and I know they wanted to make a statement with a big deal. The meeting says contracts so I am wondering if they got a WBB coach and perhaps making an adjustment to Shawn Clark now as well? I think we could personally wait and see how season goes but after some people were rude to him and he had the strong finish that we might be giving Clark a raise.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2024 12:07 pmwhat are we thinking? $500k base

Re: Kerns agrees to new contract
Off topic - Imagine a world in which a coach holds out for more money and pays a portion of the team's NIL money. We've seen that with assistants at other schools, why not players in this wild west era.

Re: Kerns agrees to new contract
Biff Poggi comes to mind for some reason. Don't know if it happened, but that would be the scenario.
Back on topic, great Step for our program!
