Sounds like we over recruited and needed a way out.

Maybe it is true. Maybe not. Have to remember that you are only getting one side of the story.

Re: 2024-25 Roster Breakdown & Wishlist
This happens more often than you know. Off the top of my head, I can think of three instances where the football team moved on from a committed player and let the kid announce that they were decommitting to help the kid save face. None of those three had signed their NLI though, so a bit different.T-Dog wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2024 8:49 pmThanks. So the player was OK coming to App but couldn't academically qualify for Coastal, if I'm reading that right?
This seemed like a crappy way of treating a recruit.
EDIT: I'm talking more about trying to get him to decommit. If you think he's not a right fit anymore, I'd say cut him loose instead of forcing him to make that decision.
I have no idea if this version of the story is the whole truth or if there is more to it. I just don’t think we will ever know because we won’t hear App’s side of it and that’s fine.

Looks like we burned a bridge with the kid and his coach. I get taking the high road, but hope it doesn't sour any coaching pipelines.

Re: 2024-25 Roster Breakdown & Wishlist
This is the first time we've publicly gotten the players side in a few years (outside of the Dbaji Walker stuff 2 years ago and the locker room tussle). Usually we just hear it from the coaches side.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 6:08 amMaybe it is true. Maybe not. Have to remember that you are only getting one side of the story.

Not the first bridge burned when trying to shed a player/coach from the program for any reason (see Kendall Lewis, Joseph Battle, Dibaji Walker, Jason Allison, Tevin Baskin, Bryson Ogeltree, Carvell Teasett)

Reading between the lines, from my perception, looks like he chose to party at the beach instead of fulfilling his commitment to rehabilitate from his injuries. That’s my unfair judgment of a kid.

Just not used to seeing full player interviews in the newspaper with only one side of the story.HurricaneYosef wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 8:44 amNot the first bridge burned when trying to shed a player/coach from the program for any reason (see Kendall Lewis, Joseph Battle, Dibaji Walker, Jason Allison, Tevin Baskin, Bryson Ogeltree, Carvell Teasett)

It’s the Randolph County local fish wrap. If it wasn’t posted here, how many of us would have seen it?

In fairness to the publication and the author, an effort was made to seek App State’s side of the story:
When contacted about the situation, App State released the following statement from Kerns: “With respect to his privacy, Jerquarius has been released from his letter of intent, and we wish him well in his future endeavors on and off the floor.”

Thanks. I don’t follow them on Twitter. I see the posting got 1 like and zero comments. I guess not many others follow them either.

Re: 2024-25 Roster Breakdown & Wishlist
In my opinion, responding publicly to provide another version of the truth is a zero sum proposition. There is probably more to this. Missing an appointment because you overslept is a lesson in personal accountability and not a fireable offense. Those that know the full story aren’t going to hold it against Kerns or the program.AppGrad78 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 11:03 amIn fairness to the publication and the author, an effort was made to seek App State’s side of the story:

Re: 2024-25 Roster Breakdown & Wishlist
Isn't there some rules against App. St. responding anyway?
Adds little or no value for App to respond for this issue as not significant...and the story news cycle is basically over. App responds keeps the story in front of people..just my opinion

Re: 2024-25 Roster Breakdown & Wishlist
I know that there are rules regarding talking about unsigned recruits. Given that we have Signing Day shows for football, I’d say that the rules are different for signed athletes.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 2:27 pmIsn't there some rules against App. St. responding anyway?

6’6 Andrin Njock has committed and will play for Appalachian State in the 2024-2025 season
Njock has been one of the better sleeper prospects in Europe over the past year
Averaged 15 PPG In Fiba this summer, plays with a high motor, great post game and great finisher

The actual GWU All-American - OLB, Ty French is now at WVU were he was credited with 1 tackle Saturday (which most-likely put him near the top) as Penn St shit-kicked my other Mountaineers for 300th time

Re: 2024-25 Roster Breakdown & Wishlist
I will be curious to see how he does later in the year. I saw an article online that said when G5 and FCS players move up they tend to struggle more in year one and need a second year to hit their groove but Ty only has one year there.
