Why decommit, right now they are starters without even stepping foot on campus. Our 4 recruits plus 2 remaining players (1 a walk on) are the extent of the App State men's basketball team.

Are some of these guys entering the transfer portal because they think it's cool? It's gotten beyond ridiculous now. I absolutely don't get our (former) players leaving unless they have absolute certain spots in better (relative term) situations. Apparently the term run it back is dead. These dudes could care less about the school they are enrolled at. Personally I can do without the canned Twitter/X crap most seem to cut and paste. It's a free country so leave if you want but spare us the bull shite.

Kerns demands a BIG raise and if they meet it then all these guys on portal come back with him. If not, everybody is gone? Basically team union forcing school to up coaches salary or else.

Who knows? Does anybody have a better explanation?

I doubt it. Who wants to do business with somebody that will blackmail you like that.

I'm with you. I don't think Kerns is doing that. It would not surprise me if a couple players withdraw from the portal but I doubt that Kerns is blackmailing us.

WHY WOULD A HEAD COACH TELL HIS PLAYERS HE IS LEAVING???? That never happened - made up theory on this board, a Head Coach would unlikely even tell his assistant he is leaving.

If those talks with a potential are happening they wouldn't want to harm chances of gettin the 'new' job and letting it leak.

They would tell an assistant after the contract is signed to tell the players to go in the portal and follow me to the new school. happens this way each year in every sport and even in the business world all the time.

I said "if" he did. I personally don't think he did for the reasons you mentioned. I believe that a few players had schools reach out and offer money, one wanted to get close to home, and the others went in either due to concern over sinking ship or they wanted to just see if they could upgrade their situation.

I have always felt that way about someone who leaves the team for whatever reason and then changes their mind. I can't really say I feel the same today though. The whole landscape has changed and taking these hard lines could be an example of cutting off your nose despite your face. The question (in my opinion) is whether the kid will be committed for the upcoming season if he returns. Frankly, that seems to be all that can be reasonably expected. It's a sad situation but seems to be the case.
