Wild thought. But what if we are actually better next year.

That is a very wild thought at the moment. If Kerns can win 30 games and the conference championship, build a statue and lifetime contract. He would get a major P5 job after he lost 90% of points, steals, rebounds, assists and won 30 games after doing so. Surprised he hasn’t got one yet or nothing has leaked yet. He deserved that this year.

Hopefully Gillin is going to get the buyout we need so if that happens we would get some financial compensation for it. He just better not do something dumb like Georgia State did with Shawn Elliott and lower the buyout to just be nice. We better enforce every penny.

Seems like it’s happening in football, maybe not at App. With the portal, this is definitely a thing. You don’t perform, you’re asked to leave.

I don't know about basketball but I have no doubts we are in football. I don't think Clark is just going up to a kid and saying you aren't good enough so we are pulling your offer. I do believe that they are having a talk to let the kid know he is not going to play so if he wants on the field he needs to go. Due to pay to play and the fact players can just freely leave whenever I think it is fair that coaches can send them packing as well. It works both ways.

In basketball I am thinking we need to look at all players like a JUCO player from now on. Having a really good player stay 4-5 years anymore is gonna be rare.

Ultimately the FT shooting is what sunk our season according to some. Kerns could not take it another year so he cut the whole team. He's been searching the net to find guys who can consistently shoot 90%. The approach will be to run and gun and get to the line 40 times a game- 36 makes will be what we need with the new and improved roster and we will get an at large bid with our 30-1 record.

I don’t know that there is a timetable for such things. I imagine that they are somewhat in perpetual motion. Give the buyout, he may only have 1 year left on his current deal so they may be discussing now.

yeah, unless Kerns mentioned to them because he has an understanding with (CofC) an interested party and the CofC coach had an understanding before Michigan was ready to make it official. Could it all blow up in his face? Sure but its unlikely

Being the optimist, my hope is that Kerns, as a fairly young guy, is returning and encouraged his players to enter the portal. If they can better their situation, he supports them but has advised them that he will welcome them back in should they wish to return. But he gave them a deadline to return so that he can focus on rebuilding the roster. My guess is the deadline will fall in line with the end of the NCAA tournament. This is what I’m going with until he announces he’s leaving for CoC and taking the entire team with him.

He is making offers to kids left and right to replace the players lost. I get that he is still the coach until he isn’t, but I find it hard to believe that he would be doing that if he had a handshake deal to replace Kelsey.
