Good news / bad news - everyone will lose players and add players. Rosters won’t be set until late summer.

Edwards can play at a solid P5, I'd bet he's gone unless he's said he's already staying. Bickerstaff might jump up to P5 again if he has eligibility left.hapapp wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 5:45 amArkansas State loses Fields but they have everyone else back. They should be good as well. In all games we fall to 5th behind So Miss.
Sorry, didn't see the previous post before I posted.
Keep in mind outside of the Auburn game until this team went on a roll didn't our crowds increase. Early season they were pretty typical App basketball crowds.
Over our last six home games we averaged 5957, with a high of 8052 (JMU) to a low of 3804 (Marshall).

Sometimes just looking at a roster doesn't tell you everything. They might be a senior but still have their extra year in their pocket.311neers wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 9:56 amEdwards can play at a solid P5, I'd bet he's gone unless he's said he's already staying. It will be interesting to see if ASU or JMU loses some players to the portal. There are a couple on each team that I could see some power programs making offers to.hapapp wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 5:45 amArkansas State loses Fields but they have everyone else back. I'm not saying it won't happen; however, I think it's less likely than in football. For one, NIL money isn't as big in basketball except at the blue bloods. Second, while both teams have some great players, I don't think they are quite good enough to take someone's starting spot. So, why transfer some place you will play less?AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 11:46 amIt will be interesting to see if ASU or JMU loses some players to the portal. It is not as much for sure but Gregory only came back because we offered him some money. I would imagine Edwards could get some offers.MrCraig wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 11:49 amI'm not saying it won't happen; however, I think it's less likely than in football. Bickerstaff and Edwards should transfer to App. You know the saying, “if you can’t beat them, join them”

Apparently JMU doesn’t need to beat us. Doubt they’d trade places right now.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 5:36 pmBickerstaff and Edwards should transfer to App. You know the saying, “if you can’t beat them, join them”

I sometimes miss being ASU, but I like being App State much more. There are a lot of ASUs out there, but only one App State.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 11:46 amIt will be interesting to see if ASU or JMU loses some players to the portal. Two more #1 seeds were eliminated from their conference tournament (Sam Houston and Tennessee), bringing the total to 12 thus far.

I wonder if we would see a stronger NCAA tournament if they got rid of conference tournaments and took the regular season champions? This would ensure that the most talented team is not snubbed just for one bad night.

I would think that would ensure the best mid-major teams actually get in and thus more mid-major wins I bet. Did you hear what a Duke player said after they got beat? He was not worried because he knew the ACC tourney did not matter and they could still win the national title.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 7:42 pmGood grief. I don't know the answer to this but have we ever had a really low seed (not top 3) from a mid-major conference pull the upset in the league tournament and then make a run in the NCAA Tournament who had a deep tourney run?

And Arizona. I think that’s 14 or 15 #1 seeds that have fallen.

Insane at the amount who have fallen. If we got rid of conference tourneys what if they went to double elimination and expanded to 84 teams or something? I just feel like we would see better quality from mid-majors if we have the best teams from each league and not just a team who got lucky or hot in a 3 day span. I feel like the regular season needs to mean something and if we are keeping the conference tournaments to then expand field and allow for all regular season champions to be in as well.

As much as I enjoy seeing Rick Barnes get beat all these #1s being beaten in conference tournaments bodes very badly for our guys if there even a remote chance of an at-large to the Dance. The #1s will get the at-larges.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.
