Conference Tourney
First of all ESPN can shove it. All 4 picked JMU. Not the team that best them twice and won the regular season. Not the team with huge momentum. Whatever. Lunardi can eat a bag of dukes.
March 9th 11:30am on espn +, it begins. Survive and advance. Take the stairs.

Re: Conference Tourney
You know they spent about 2 minutes each on probably 20 conferences. I'm sure a lot of in depth analysis was put forward with the mid majors.

Re: Conference Tourney
Given the regular season champ hasn’t won the tournament in a few years, JMU seems like a safe pick.

Re: Conference Tourney
If you go to the Sunbelt website and look at the tournament schedule there is no television listed for our game. Is it definitely on espn+ for sure?appdaze wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2024 10:58 amFirst of all ESPN can shove it. All 4 picked JMU. Not the team that best them twice and won the regular season. Re: Conference Tourney
I am thankful they did. Gives our team more fuel. Also, someone posted the stat that the regular season champion does not win the tournament often. It is hard to be a team 3 times so I get it. Just keep taking the stairs and go 1-0. This is a really good team but I want "experts" to doubt us.appdaze wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2024 10:58 amFirst of all ESPN can shove it. All 4 picked JMU. Re: Conference Tourney
For those without ESPN +
Why James Madison will win: Let's instead talk about what happens if the Dukes don't. Expect considerable chatter about an at-large bid for the team that already has 28 wins. However, that total includes a non-Division I victory as well as a nation-best (worst?) 20 wins in Quad 4. To avoid the questions, JMU needs to figure out a way past Appalachian State, which won their pair of regular-season decisions. -- Lunardi

Re: Conference Tourney
With that sound reasoning, why wouldn't you pick the Dukes . . . seems like a lock they go all the way/\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2024 12:51 pmFor those without ESPN +

For comparison, App has 13 Quad 4 wins, with one loss./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2024 12:51 pmFor those without ESPN +

Re: Conference Tourney
I’ve mentioned this multiple times regarding schools “gaming” the system by playing excessive amount of quad 4 teams… the selection committee is aware of this… paraphrasing the Chair, “ if a team plays lots of Q4 games, they better beat the top team (s) in their conference.” 1-0 baby.

Re: Conference Tourney
Yup. I'm thinking they should get #1 seed overall. NCAA make an adjustment to the locations and allow all of their tournament games including the final four to be played in Harrisonburg.AppOrange wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2024 1:48 pmWith that sound reasoning, why wouldn't you pick the Dukes . . . seems like a lock they go all the way/\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2024 12:51 pmFor those without ESPN +

Re: Conference Tourney
Are you personally a fan of the system? I kind of like it. Sure it stinks if your conference is having a down year and those wins are from a lower quad, but definitely is fair that you should not be rewarded just because the winning percentage is high.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2024 1:52 pmFor comparison, App has 13 Quad 4 wins, with one loss./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2024 12:51 pmFor those without ESPN +

Side note. Haven't heard if any Virginia politicians are planning to get involved this time haha

Re: Conference Tourney
I don’t have a strong opinion one way or another on the system. My only gripe, if I were to have one is that a regular season conference champion that doesn’t win its tournament should get more consideration than a 8th or 9th best team form a larger, more competitive conference./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2024 2:48 pmAre you personally a fan of the system? Honestly I agree it's great material for the posterboard. This team has shown no let up but can't hurt to have a bit more gas on the fire.

Re: Conference Tourney
Many of these mid-level teams in larger conferences receive NCAA bids for one reason: their fanbases. Everyone loves a potential Cinderella story, but teams with large fanbases get more butts in seats and eyes on TV advertisements.

Pulling for Texas State to make it through rounds 1 and 2 to stay out of quad 4. In other conference tournament news, Queens won their first round game. Austin Peay playing in their quarterfinals at 8 tonight.
