Security Guard goes off?

Unread post by Bootsy » Sun Feb 11, 2024 6:31 pm

This observation from yesterday's game might make for some interesting conversation...

My bride and I were seated on the left side of Section L12, Row M. Halfway through the 1st half, we observed a security person walk up to Row B and start screaming at a bunch of younger fans sitting there. The fans get up and leave, but she continues screaming at them, carrying on after the fact and pretty much losing her mind.

Of course, she has every right to move squatters out of those seats. But it was surprising at how it went down because she was neither pleasant or professional about it. Frankly, it was pretty embarrassing. I couldn't tell if they were students or recent grads, but they were definitely younger fans.

[note: YC members will know the security guard...she is the one who sits at the mouth of the tunnel you take to reach the hospitality room before games]

Did anyone else see this?

No call for this as you have described it. Unfortunate.

I saw it. What you are not mentioning (and likely did not see) is they were kicked out from those seats 4 different times. The 4th time security finally had enough.

If it's the same incident.

First time-be nice.
Second time-be nice but firm and maybe crack a joke about the folks not hearing you the first time.
Third time-be nice but firm and not joking.
Forth time-be nice (or not) and if you are not most everyone is going to understand and enough is enough.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

She is generally a pleasant person so I have to assume that she could have been justified in her approach.

Listen, IF the seats weren’t occupied by the ticket holders I have no problem with people moving down.

If that is all it is, I would agree. I think that there are some key factors that could be missing here to make a sound judgement. I’m sure that they weren’t the only folks not in their purchased seats so why single them out.

I agree and have done that move many times over the years. I found the key was to not look obvious and by all means don't stick out. Along these lines some games (including ours) look terrible on television with loads of seats empty while the students are crammed in the baseline sections. Caught some of the JMU game after ours Saturday and they had a ton of what I assume are season ticket seat's completely empty.

Having an opinion on whether to move the squatters or not is above the security officer's pay grade. She did what she was paid to do.

Certainly possible they were repeat offenders and I didn’t see their earlier hijinks. She’s always seemed nice in the past.

If they were acting the fool sure move them. Third time ask the police on site to pay them a visit. No need to creat a scene

Of course, they could've always stepped right outside Holmes and settled it in the octagon...
