Best Frontcourt

Unread post by Saint3333 » Wed Jan 17, 2024 8:28 pm

Have we ever had a better frontcourt than right now in our program? I can’t remember one and I remember the Apke era.

Nope. I've never seen an App frontcourt that can ball like these dudes. It's special after seeing some of our frontcourts in the last dozen years.

All they need a free throw psychologist.

Can’t remember who we had with Donte Minter, but defensively this is the best I’ve seen in my 39 years of fandom.

Kellen Brand and Donald Sims are the closest comparison on offensive lethality. Brand was a hustler.

Backcourt but yes. Imagine Sims on this team.

Ha you're right I misread that. I'm at a high school wrestling match. But yes we had Jeremy Clayton and he was a 10 and 10 machine. Loved his defense nect to the sometimes defense of Minter.

We had a decent starting frontcourt during the Cremins era. Calvin Bowser and Mel Hubbard come to mind. He didn't have the depth we have now for sure.

A sharp shooter from the outside that is automatic from the line, we’d be a top 25 team.

Best team overall. Buzz tournament team was good, but that was mostly solid backcourt play. Haven’t seen a Spillers, Huntley or Abson. Shoot, Gregory is the best post up back court player I’ve ever seen.

Tate has been clutch at the line. I’ll take his ok 3 point % with his FTs

And Tony Searcy. May have led the nation in rebounding maybe ‘78. Bowser was gone by then but Mel , the SoCon high jump champion was around.

Have any of our 4 losses been due to the free throw shooting? I don't think so. Still need to shore that up. I still think Abson will be more of a force when he realizes how big and dominant he is. He has missed several bunnies right at the basket that he could have slammed but missed off the board.

Searcy was a transfer from Surry Community College.

Oregon State and Troy losses werent DUE TO free throws, but App missed 7 in each of those games. If you added 7 pts in regulation to App’s score, they win both those games.

However, I agree with what I think you’re trying to say; there are some folks on this board completely hung up on free throw shooting.
