23-24 Expectations & Predictions
Season tips tomorrow. How are we feeling? What are we expecting to see this season?
Positives: Donovan came back for a bonus year, return tons of key guys like Harcum, Mantis, Abson, Huntley, & Brown, Tons of buzz in SBC media day, MM Top 25 appearance, various ESPN / NCAA tourney prediction articles.
Devils advocate negatives: Team only went 13-16 against D1 opponents last year and didn't make any big off season splashes / upgrades. Who will consistently lead us offensively?
Wishlist from this off season:
WISHLIST:
1. Big Time guard addition via the transfer portal. - Myles Tate looks to be our guy for this to happen. Had an injury and not much success at Butler, maybe he can settle in for us
2. Speaking of Offense, wish #2 is significant improvement to our offensive scheme. - This is the biggest thing i'm looking for this season. We are not finishing top 2 in the sun belt if we are running the same offense we have been the last few years
3. Free Throw Improvements. We can't be dead last in the conference again plain and simple.
4. Better Early season tournament - Wouldnt consider the Fort Myers tip off an upgrade over what weve had in years past, but a good location and competition at least
5. Roster / Staff Cohesion - vibes seem to be great heading into the season
6. Larger Media / Social Media presence - there has been an uptick in pre season content this year, love to see it
7. High Major Transfer Addition - still waiting for the year we land one. Crowley was a stud last yr for USM, Bickerstaff for JMU is proving major as they compete with #4 Michigan St tonight

Re: 23-24 Expectations & Predictions
Folks in the administration seemed pretty excited for the season at the Marshall game. Agreed we need to see improved PG play to really compete for the SBC title.
Would like to see 20 wins.

I like Tate. Saw him play in high school a few times, once from the other bench.

Hard to gauge much from tonight but:
Good - only 7 turnovers
Ugly - 14/29 free throws

I would add the offense looked to have more tempo and a better flow.
On the other hand, looked awful around the rim. We have to finish better.

I am sure you get that basketball at App isn't the same as football. Kerns is doing a very good job putting out a dumpster fire.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 7:38 amTeam did not cover last night. Is Kerns on the hot seat?![]()
I was at the game last night. Attendance has improved a bunch over the last few years. Students are showing up. Kerns has some momentum. He needs to build on that. But he shouldn't be close to a hot seat. He's doing a very solid job building something from nothing.

Re: 23-24 Expectations & Predictions
The schedule this season seems really geared for a nice run of homegames that will hopefully drive attendance even higher. It's kind of cool seeing a stairstep of games up to Auburn. The students have done a really good job turning out and I think if the oncourt product is even better this season they'll show up. Not to mention if we get some wins rolling into Auburn, Holmes should be hopping.
