App vs Asheville in Hickory

Unread post by appdaze » Tue Aug 08, 2023 2:16 pm

The Tarlton where this is being played barely holds 1500. We need to slam-pack this place. There are tons of App alum in Hickory, so there better not be a single empty seat.

Query: Does the arena really deserve the article "THE" before it? I am thinking Tarlton ...... is more of its status than The Tarlton ....

Very cool. Wish they could've added 2 more teams and made a tournament.

The game was the idea of a member of the BOT with ties to the region based on what I have been told.If all goes well there will be an annual early season game in Hickory around the Holidays. He is also pushing for the Sunbelt to bring Championships to Hickory where facilities like golf , cross country and even baseball make it possible.Going to be a tough sell.

Crawdads for baseball. I can kind of understand. It's a dated facility but not in terrible shape and has a ton of parking. I'm not sure why the golf would be in Hickory. There have to be better facilities to host than the Catawba country clun or Rockbarn(which isn't really hickory).

Now cross country. Why in the world would they do that in Hickory, and where?

Yea,....no way the Sunbelt goes for doing stuff in Hickory with all the other possible locations in the Sunbelt footprint.

Rock Barn for golf. In the past, they hosted a senior event.

Haven’t they done a Korn Ferry event as well?

Maybe. I seem to remember a October/November type timeframe for senior event...not peak golf season ..It has been a long time ago when I lived in the area. The tournament course was a great course.

The par 3 with the creek and sand traps around it was one of the few downhill holes. One of my favorite holes of the 18.

Season ticket holders got access today. Not sure they've announced single game tickets yet

Are tickets sold out for this? I’ve been trying to buy tickets and it’s not going through.

I played a JV high school basketball game in this “arena” 20-something years ago when it was new. Not a good look for the program to be playing there. It’s not in any way a division 1 arena. Queens’ gym is vastly better than “The” Tarleton.

Asheville got blown out by Auburn so they should probably just forfeit

I went to the SAC bball tournament there in about 2003 when I lived in the apartments behind the mall in Hickory. Might not be the best look, but I understand why we’re playing there. With the new Hickory campus and a decent alumni contingent in HKY, we’re likely trying to build some following for the team.

Also, with students gone for exams, it is not like Holmes will be packed for a game in Boone.

If we are talking about the game on 12/21 exams are done but students are mostly gone home. There probably would not be very many folks in the HCC.
