Doesn’t belong here but I’m not starting a new thread. Saw this on my FB and thought some of y’all might be interested. See we can be civil with each other 😄

Thank you! Love our newest App State Football helmet from the auction for our man cave collection. We were able to support a very good cause with the donation also. We appreciate the heads up and yes we can be civil...from time to time. ;)

It might be better than expected.
Ton of talent in the portal. Kerns has had success in it before, just have to trust he will find some gems!
Just curious, what is our baseline for "success" in the portal:

Guys with experience / veteran addition to locker room?

Guys who can start / contribute significant minutes?

All Conference caliber additions?

Winning games / competing for SBC championship regardless of how transfer additions contribute?

The Portal is tough for us due to NIL .Top talent expects top dollar.Even middle of the Pack P5s are getting real money. Hopefully we find some diamonds in the rough , most likely JuCo or D2 kids who want a shot to prove they belong in D1.

Not really a shock. More than half of them are told to transfer if they want to see the field or having scholarship taken away. The rest are looking for better NIL deals or just want a change of scenery because they can. Now people can see why many folks never wanted to give players free transfers because now it is out of control. Coaches are pushing bad players out and the good players are just looking to get bidding wars for their services.

At least a player can only transfer once "for free." Am I correct about that? I'm ok with not passing judgment until it has a few years to level out. Eventually athletes will realize they need to think long and hard about their decision.

Donovan Gregory just posted “I’m Back App Nation” on Twitter. Did I see earlier this week that his brother is leaving ETSU????

This would be hilarious if his brother left the powerhouse of ETSU for App.

Really excited to see Donovan come back and that answers the locker room and culture question for me!

Well, he only played in 10 games and averaged 1.7 pts/game. Its not like we are getting one of their superstars. Nonetheless, it would be a good pickup, with 3 years of eligibility.

I've heard the reason Don is coming back is for a chance to play with his brother...

If they graduate then they can also grad transfer freely, supposedly. I say supposedly because I have seen players transfer each year and not sit out.

Don told the team earlier this week.Thank you to his parents who value the relationship with the staff and pushed him to come back and get a Masters. We need more parents like them. His brother never came up in the conversation .While I don't know , I don't think that was or is a consideration.Based on what else that I do know he likely wouldn't play next year , there just won't be enough minutes. This week we have guys visiting that can make an impact on day one. With a little luck there will be more great news soon.

DG coming back is awesome! I love his game. He’s improved every year and I can’t wait to see what he can do with the extra season. Good for him and his family and our program. Makes my damn weekend. He is to what App culture what guys like Thomas Hennigan was to the football program. LFG!
