I’m not sure that the “Dead Period” applies to transfer candidates in the portal.

Love the size and frontcourt additions this off season of Wilson and Spillers
1 scholarship remaining
Still awaiting a big splash and still have a need for a go to offensive weapon.
As the roster currently stands, Donovan Gregory will be our #1 option again with Harcum/Mantis right there with him. Unless our offensive scheme/gameplan receives an overhaul, I believe we will be seeing basically the same offense we've complained about over the last couple of years..

We’ve added a lot but mostly younger guys (4 Freshman). You hit it on the head, would be nice to land 1 more offensive minded player with college experience to rotate with the 6 returners.HurricaneYosef wrote: ↑Sun May 14, 2023 7:51 pmLove the size and frontcourt additions this off season of Wilson and Spillers

You guys hit the nail right on the head! We have a really good nucleus returning, we’ve added a couple of youngsters (perhaps one will flourish early) and some portal/transfer additions. I’m excited…IF we change or offensive game plan!

I was not implying. If not other options for D1, most of the time, JUCO is to help academically or behaviorally. Not always but a good percentage of time. Hope he does well and has a productive career in his journey!AppStateNews wrote: ↑Fri May 12, 2023 1:38 pmIf you want to imply it being academic issues, go ahead. He didn't have any d1 programs calling so he was forced to go JuCo route.
There are reasons he didn't have teams making the call....
He was not forced to go JUCO is what I am saying. Forced implies academic issues. He chose to go JUCO instead of a lower level, in hopes of going back D1 after a year it appears.
But yes, he was forced to go JuCo. He didn't have any other options other than no longer playing college basketball.

This wasn’t a good situation for him personally and there was no options available to him to change that. Nothing more, nothing less.appgrad2010 wrote: ↑Mon May 15, 2023 8:21 amI was not implying. Re: 2023-24 Roster Breakdown & Wishlist
Outside of Kendall Lewis in Kern's first season and Abson this past year we haven't really seen freshmen receive significant minutes during their first season:pop5app wrote: ↑Mon May 15, 2023 5:47 am311neers wrote: ↑Sun May 14, 2023 9:18 pmWe’ve added a lot but mostly younger guys (4 Freshman). Justin Abson (2022) - 22.5 mpg
Kendall Lewis (2019) - 22.4 mpg
CJ Huntley (2020) - 12 mpg
Xavion Brown (2020) - 11 mpg
Donovan Gregory (2019) - 10.4 mpg
RJ Wilson (2020) - 9.1 mpg (9 games, redshirted the year prior)
Terrence Harcum (2021) - 8.4 mpg
Michael Eads (2020) - 7.1 mpg
Zocko Littleton (2022) - 6 mpg (7 games)
Chris Mantis (2021) - 5.3 mpg
Sasha Glushkov (2020) - 4.4 mpg
Incoming freshman class has an uphill battle with the core we have returning. Abson-Gregory-Huntley-Harcum-Mantis are probably about locked into the starting line up / primary minute roles. X Brown and Butler transfer Myles Tate probably hold the edge as veterans in the next tier (could see one of Mantis/Huntley move to bench), but both being poor perimeter shooters makes it more of a good chance someone like Strothers or Marsh sneak into a serious role as freshmen. But also once again this solidifies if we can land an offensive minded 2/3 guard we would be in an EXCELLENT spot to win the Sun Belt.
Side note, man I wish Kendall Lewis would have worked out. Having him and Don together for 5 seasons could have been very rewarding as we can see the staff gave him significantly more minutes as a freshman....but also kind of makes sense since Lewis was the only player on that roster that the staff brought in (everyone else was a Fox/Allison guy)

Just some thinking outloud, may the transfer God's ever be in our favor if we do in fact try and bring in one more piece

Re: 2023-24 Roster Breakdown & Wishlist
I really like Strothers upside. He’s a long guard with a smooth stroke who can score in multiple ways based on a few video clips I’ve seen. It also appears that Hayes might be an under recruited big with lots of promise.HurricaneYosef wrote: ↑Mon May 15, 2023 8:53 pmOutside of Kendall Lewis in Kern's first season and Abson this past year we haven't really seen freshmen receive significant minutes during their first season:pop5app wrote: ↑Mon May 15, 2023 5:47 am311neers wrote: ↑Sun May 14, 2023 9:18 pmWe’ve added a lot but mostly younger guys (4 Freshman). Re: 2023-24 Roster Breakdown & Wishlist
All of these additions are great and we have some key core players coming back. I just hope the talent isn’t squandered by playing "hero ball" down the stretch of each game. This was something many on this board, myself included, witnessed and were frustrated by last year as several winnable games were lost. When the ball is moved and spread around, this is a fantastic team. While I understand putting guys in situations of mismatches, the one on one stuff for the sake of a single individual trying to take control of the game rarely pans out. Will be rooting for this team all the way. Hope the last scholly is used on a 6 foot 9, fast as lightning stud who shoots 93% from the field, 85% from three point land, averages 35 rebounds, 11 block shots and 24 assists per game.

I remember when chicken littles on this board were worried about the locker room and culture. This offseason has been pretty positive from my perspective.

I look for us to make a run based on what we have in hand .My thought is that we keep one scholarship in our pocket just in case....

Try to temper my enthusiasm on incoming freshmen and transfers until after seeing them play. But...if any of them pan out well and with the we have players returning I will be pretty disappointed if we do not have a very good season this coming year.

Re: 2023-24 Roster Breakdown & Wishlist
This was a 16-16 team and our biggest off season addition is the announcement of Donovan Gregory returning for his bonus covid year.
We lose Boykin who proved his importance when he was out injured, Dibaji Walker & Tamell Pearson who were quality front court pieces.
As with any team we obviously expect returning guys to improve, but that's the case for all teams in the league. I'm not sure if we are currently a 20 win team yet..
The landscape of the Sun Belt could effect that, once rosters finalize across the league we'll have a better eye to what we should expect come conference play

Re: 2023-24 Roster Breakdown & Wishlist
From what I have heard, Kerns wants to get a lineup where Huntley plays the 3. If we have Gregory, Mantis, Huntley, Wilson, and Abson as the starting 5.. that is going to cause a lot of problem for many teams in the Sun Belt. And we don't have to eliminate the 3 ball.
