Great shooting, hope that can carry over to tomorrow, and the tournament.

This site has a tiebreaker calculator: http://bball.notnothing.net/sunbelt.php?sport=mbb

It looks like App gets as high as #5, but for that to occur App needs a win + Troy needs to lose and likely South Alabama.

Too bad ULM couldn't take the game against Troy last night.

great win, but Ga State looks bad....completely lost on defense most of the night...never did adjust by closing out on our 3 ball. Of course that would have meant closing out several feet behind the line.

It’s the Charlie Cobb special. No one can ruin a basketball program quite like that clown.

GO APPS!!

Wild how when we dominate there isn't a whole lot on the game thread. It's almost like a large faction of this board only like to complain...
Does really count as complaining if fans would like to see our basketball program be above average? Last night was fantastic. But it doesn't change the fact that we're a mid pack Sun Belt team.

Sure.

But saying we're a mid pack sun Belt team and wanting them to be better is way different than "we are so bad. We can't score in anybody." Which is what 90% of the game day threads are..

It's really not that hard to see the difference.

People read comments in a way that support their bias.

The majority of people posting in a basketball thread are much more objective than the football threads.

Well, if we didn’t go on 6 minute scoring droughts in 90% of our games….😉

Fair. But my point remains majority of the people here only want to discuss the basketball games when they aren't playing well and stay silent when they are playing well.

After losing to Charlotte we were 5-4. We have remained a .500ish team since. The Wake loss was brutal but is offset with the win at Louisville that would have been brutal if not for half a second at the end. We have 3 wins against trash but most every team pads their schedule with patsies so those are what they are. Some of our conference losses were really bad. Other than that loss to Stink we haven't had another conference loss that "should have been a win". We are basically a middle of the conference team with the talent to have been better. I guess that's much better than being a cellar dweller devoid of any real talent. I still think we have the guys to make a run and win the tournament but we might need that one guy each night to catch fire.

Aside from pulling for App I think Marshall, JMU, and South Alabama are next most likely to represent the conference. I think Southern Miss & ULL are just too streaky offensively to win three games straight. Especially if they catch someone like South Alabama or Troy early on.

Looks like we get GS regardless. If we win and USA were to lose (they play UL), good chance we get ULM. Best we can finish is 7th.
After we win tomorrow and if Troy loses don't we win the head to head tiebreaker over them? If ODU loses we would have split with them but both of us would be 10-8 in conference. Is overall record a tiebreaker?
If Troy loses to CCU and we win, we do hold the tiebreaker. Of course, ODU has Marshall and if they lose and USA goes to UL and wins, then there would be a four way tie.

ODU beat USA but lost to Troy, and split with us (2-2) We beat Troy, lost to USA and split with ODU (2-2). Troy split with USA, beat ODU, lost to us (2-2). USA beat us, split with Troy and lost to ODU (2-2).

All teams are 2-2 against each other. Next is record versus highest seeded team. (Currently USM and Marshall are tied for that

USA is 1-1 v USM (didn't play Marshall and Marshall holds the tiebreak there)
ODU is 1-0 v USM; 0-1 v Marshall (play them tomorrow)
Troy is 0-2 v USM; 0-1 v Troy
App is 0-1 v USM; 0-2 v Marshall

App and Troy would be eliminated; we would have the tiebreak over Troy for 7th place. But, if Marshall is the highest seed, not sure if our two losses give Troy the edge.

Amazing how much could rest on the final night of the season.

GO APPS!!
In his defense, hiring Jonas Hayes was seen as a slam dunk and Georgia State turned over their entire starting lineup and then some.

I could have sworn they were in the NCAA tournament last year. I wouldn't judge their program on one year. As T-Dog stated, this is a new squad. I would hold off pronouncing Ga State's program as dead.

Not sure it was all Cobb's fault. Meddling (baby blue loving) alumni with deep pockets evidently played a huge role in the downfall of our program. No knowledge of the details but is seems like Cobb caved in to them. Again, should have hired McMahon when we had the opportunity.

There have been a couple of games we could have pulled out and a couple of tight ones that did go our way .We are about what our record says we are but if we shoot well we can compete with anyone in the Conference.
