We had a lead! Ugh. Looks like free throws bit us a little. Maybe a bad shooting night?

What’s all this talk about their players and coaches threatening our fans? Seeing a lot of chatter on that right now. Anyone from the game can confirm? Wouldn’t expect that from ODU, maybe southern lol

Jones was even getting into it with the fans. Totally classless. As for Kern’s T, as it came at a bad time, was bound to happen. That 1 ref was about the worst I’ve ever seen.

Hate to see that, no room for that in sports. This all makes sense now, didn’t see it on TV. Wish some of our student fans would take the higher road at times. The same ones that were after chase brice’s neck during the season are now going after ODU players. Embarrassing for both parties.

Great crowds in Huntington and J Maddie , large and loud .Of course those guys are in the upper echelon of the conference.

I was there and didn't notice the player/fan interaction. As for the "T" on Dustin it was a very quiet one. He was standing at the score table, the ref was there, and suddenly he rung him up. It was so sudden it was as if Dustin had said one of the "magic words" which I highly highly doubt happened.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Have watched every game and I wonder why the T on Kerns took so long. There have been a number of times, this year, that I think he could have purposely gotten a T. Sometimes the team needs to know the coach will “go to the mattress’s for them. Ref’s aside, we are what we are, a .500 team.

Another good home crowd on Saturday and another loss, just like clock work.

True fans support regardless of a win or a loss. AND they don't make it a big deal, they just show up, consistently. You're not winning every home ball game in basketball.

Re: GAME THREAD - MBB vs Old Dominion, Sat 2/18 4pm
Ridding/cussing at the refs during play. We had possession, down by 8 I think, game was pretty much over but this sealed it with the two FT makes by ODU. Not a good decision. At the end of the day, I disagree with some on here, I think we did play hard and brought energy, we were just never in position to get a rebound/loose ball, and when were were we would not secure it, typically a fumble out of bounds or to the other team. Cold from 3 and started taking questionable shots. And OMG the free throws again, that alone probably cost us the game despite some bad play. DK was as animated as I have ever seen him. I think he knew the importance of this game and as it was slipping away kinda exploded. Dude is trying so hard to build us into a winner and we just Jeckly and Hyde our way to losses all year. At times today I thought the O looked good, ball movement, hard drives, good dishes . . . then came the other . . . which always seems to happen. We simply cannot win a big game at home, I think that is what frustrated him the most.

Personally feel like we had the height advantage and athleticism to out rebound ODU. Including this game, there have been too many instances of ball watching to the hoop versus putting a body on someone to box out. Yes, our help defense is going to allow someone to be open for some easy put backs from time to time.. However, there were several occasions when we were around the rim ..if box out occurs..no rebound by ODU.
Two lost skill sets in basketball game today's era...no mid-range consistent jump shooters and the ability (desire) to box out on a consistent basis. What Gregory does at the elbow and a little further out is a lost art form in basketball.
Move on to next one. Let's finish up the season with a couple of road wins

What will this team be like without Gregory? Could be ugly next year

We said the same thing last year but it was delph forrest and almonacy. Will have 7+ new faces again. Lose 4 scholarship seniors, 3 scholarship guys left the team already. 2 incoming freshman. Gotta live and die by the portal!

Yes, you win a few and you lose a few. However, the current trend of losing every home packed game on Saturday is a concern (even for a true fan).DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Sun Feb 19, 2023 8:58 amTrue fans support regardless of a win or a loss. 2 more opportunities this week...on the road...both winnable...would love to see a strong finish...we have the talent. Regardless i have enjoyed watching our guys play this season. We still have something to play for. Never know what can happen in the sunbelt tourny

IMHO from the sofa....This is where the staff needs to right the ship as much as possible. I can live with a Virginia style offense of not scoring many points and going to end of shot clock on every possession... due to we are typically an above average defensive team.
We need 4 to 6 of the newbies 7, if we get 7, to be contributing in some form or fashion.....whereas to be sustainable program, IMO, we need 2 to 4 to be contributing (not saying starting) of newbies to be contributing each year. asking a lot to be a winning program if we 4 to 6 newbies contributing every year given we are not a top 25 program and getting coveted transfers..got to build primarily at HS recruiting level.
I feel like, if Abson can get in top shape, and increase lateral movement a bit and improve offensive arsenal, he could be one of the best App has had at the position. I think we will see how it plays out. They say you can make most significant strides between frosh and soph years.

Seems like I recall that Walker has another year of eligibility, maybe not. I thought it was due to a medical redshirt year at a previous school.

And we were right, the lack of a finisher down the stretch has cost us 4-5 games. Lose the glue that is Gregory and it gets worse.
