a timeout would have been nice. huntley was sitting at scorers table at the 10:00 mark and didn’t get in until the 6:00 mark.

Frustrating game but Marsha had an answer each time we got close. They were killer on the offensive rebounds and transition 3's at the right time. If we'd had Boykin that might have pulled us closer but they're simply a more complete team than we are. At least it wasn't a 30pt curb stomping like we took in Huntington. Keep on grinding out the regular season and see where we land.

I’ll leave this here:

83% vs 61% from the free throw line.

We make it harder than we need too

Marshall didn't have their A game tonight, maybe not even their B game. Missed opportunity, but a BIG ONE Saturday. Based on marketing push looking forward to seeing the big crowd and us to sweep the Dukes!

This was certainly a winnable game. We shot at higher% both fg’s and 3 pts%…. Marshall is big rebounding team… beat us 41-39. We gave up -5 turnovers… that hurt…. and the couple of times in the second half where we tied…. we had a couple of bad possessions that Marshall took advantage of…never mind the fact that we kept them 20 pts under their average. We let them get away tonight.

We just don’t have enough scoring options at the moment to hang with the good to great teams. 3 of our guys are very 1 dimensional (3 point shooter and inside 5’ only). hard to win when you only have 1 to 2 guys you can count on.

any injury and timeline update on boykin return?

Sometimes a team is simply better and the eyeballs are all you need to determine it. Marshall moves the ball around faster and has multiple guys who can knock down open shots. We have a few players who look like pro prospects one night and simply inept the next. One or two looked like a deer in the headlights at times last night- even at home. Bricks, air balls and missed free throws are killer. We shot the ball better, played pretty good defense but lost the turnover and free throw battle. Make just 3 more from the line and eliminate 3-4 of those turnovers/steals and it's dead even.

Agree with above. The eyeball test on tv screen showed a better team. Even if we did had less turnovers and made more FTs...not sure we win as the other adjusts to do what is needed. It just seemed, when they needed to, Marsha could get a basket. I thought our team gave a great effort. Talent wins out. Congratulations to Marsha.

In both games, I have been impressed with Andy Taylor, number 0, for Marsha. Plays hard, and plays the right way. It's little things in sportsmanship as well. He reached out a hand on a couple of occasions to help our guys up from the floor

I noticed that too....also reached out to shake Donovan's hand on free throw line after he was knocked to the floor late in the game. I haven't seen USM or UL this year, but this Marshall squad might be the most talented team I've seen since we've been in the Belt. There were some talented Ga State teams over the years, but we've beaten them a lot and they certainly didn't display good sportsmanship.

Agree App played well, Marshall was just better yesterday. It does feel like slipped away a bit, but App played good defense so not sure I'll give them that.

The JMU & ULM games hold outsized importance now for the double bye spot.

Hard to generate "hate" when a team plays that way. Mutual respect might be more appropriate. I still recall the couple of home football games we played against Marshall when I was at App in the 80's. They really traveled back then and really supported their program.

They had a great crowd for SoCon tournament games in Asheville in the early-mid 90's as well.

I get so frustrated watching this team. Sometimes they just look lost and still haven't developed a killer instinct. I feel like we're on the cusp of being a really good team. I wish we'd hurry up and get over the hump. BEAT JMU!!!

2,700 attendance.

Again…where are the students? We have over 18,000 of them and only 5%* of them show up.

*this is an eyeball estimate of 1k students vs 1,500 public (baselines vs sidelines). It isn’t meant to be exact only to illustrate a point.

Donovan Gregory is the last Allison recruit and will be gone in the next month; Kerns and his staff haven’t shown the ability to recruit to bring in the type of talent to compete in this league either.

Just a personal opinion. We have a decent team, not a great team. We have an above average defensive squad. .
Offensively, we have 2 or 3 above average 3 point shooters when open (not when they have to create it on their own). We have a couple of guys that can drive to the basket...and we have a big man that can score decently when near the basket. Personally, I believe for the team to be successful the rest of the season, we have to be more dedicated to dribble and drive as opposed to the higher ball screen. Work the higher ball screen into the mix. Last night, we fared well on dribble and drive. Marsha defense was for the big man to move to help..so big men got easy buckets..when that was not open we got pretty open looks at 3 point line due to defense helping...For some reason, we did not do that enough in both halves.
However, if teams play us man to man, I believe that is the best strategy....
