I’m impressed by that game last night. Short turn around against A good jmu team on the road. I think I see the team learning that the the game needs to run through Gregory,Harcum, Boykin.

The big 3. Like Lebron, Wade, and Bosh for the Heat a few years back. but i’d take our 3 over those! So glad we found Boykin, who knows where we would be without him.

While those three are crucial, we wouldn’t have had the success we had last night without Huntley getting offensive rebounds and tap outs to guards, and the inside presence of Abson and Pearson on defense. Their offense numbers might not pop on the stat sheet, but I was very impressed with the patience and footwork of our bigs when the ball was in their hands as well.

College b ball is a guards game. Our bigs are only as good as Gregory, Harcum, Boykin and to some extent Brown, make them.

Pro and college are a guards game. With that said, if our 21 had offensive weapons like bacot at UNC, we would be more inside out. I actually hope 21 develops more offensively so we can be more inside out. Given how our offense runs (using significant amount of shot clock each possession), I actually think we would be better if we could be more inside out. We would have more open 3 pointers in the natural flow of the offense as defenders would have to respect inside game.

solid 4 “bigs” huntley pearson huntley walker.
solid 4 “guards” harcum brown gregory and boykin.
then there’s mantis, the shooter.

safe to say we found our solid 9 man rotation, and I like it

Only one that’s puzzling is Eads. Definitely thought he would have a role this year. Maybe it’s the injury recovery, maybe it’s the defense? If we get him back or into the mold, that’s just a plus for us as the season wears on.

I think there is a world of difference psychologically between being 1-3 and 2-2 in conference after 4 games. Another bad loss could have sunk the ship

While I don’t disagree with that statement, the inverse can be true as well. The guards might not be as successful without the bigs, especially their defensive presence.

Yah Abson's ceiling could be very high. Closest App player I could think of for comparison is Donte Minter and Abson actually has a higher offensive rating in his freshmen season with the big caveat that Donte's usage rate was 2x as high. Those were some really good App teams too (25-7 regular season and a year we almost got an at large if we hadn't shat the bed at home vs Elon).

I agree about the comparison to Minter. Abson's HS highlights reminded me of Minter's style of play.

Minter was more of an offensive threat. Absent his injury one wonders what his ceiling would have been.

Would have had a pretty high ceiling, but if healthy he would have never left UVA.
