GAME THREAD - MBB vs Carlow - 6:30pm, Tuesday, December 6h
Carlow Celtics at App State (5-4)
Holmes Convocation Center
6:30pm Tuesday, December 6th
ESPN+
Line N/A
App State 99% chance to win
Kenpom: App 215th
I don't see any gain by playing a team like Carlow. They're new to division 3. They've lost their last 4 in a row by an average score around 120-50. Their enrollment is only 1,365...In 2017-18 their enrollment was just 16% men...assuming those numbers are still relatively current, they only have around 200 male students on campus. We'll stomp this team but learn absolutely nothing about ourselves doing it.

Provides an opportunity to actually develop an offensive game plan.

The offensive game plan usually breaks down as soon as the team realizes the opponent will not keep up. Victory in the bag and whatever we do will work because the opponent is terrible. Maybe 5-10 minutes worth.

Can’t get inside the zone without x brown driving. I’m very very surprised zocko hasn’t gotten a minute yet. he better play whole 2nd half

Re: GAME THREAD - MBB vs Carlow - 6:30pm, Tuesday, December 6h
Why do you think he should play the entire second half? What have you seen every day in practice that deems him more playing time than others in a half?
I get here was highly ranked. But perhaps he's struggling with the offense? Or maybe he's not there defensively yet? Or maybe he's still not 100% and there no need to risk re-aggravating an injury against a team we have doubled up at half?
I don't know. But I do know the coaches that see him every day know why he hasn't played a whole lot. I'm going to trust what they see daily over what his high school tape showed.

I think maybe simply because it's a blowout and the bench should empty early.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Tue Dec 06, 2022 7:25 pmWhy do you think he should play the entire second half? What have you seen every day in practice that deems him more playing time than others in a half?

That's fair. But my point is demanding someone better see playing time simply based on his high school tape is absurd.goapps93 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 06, 2022 7:30 pmI think maybe simply because it's a blowout and the bench should empty early.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Tue Dec 06, 2022 7:25 pmWhy do you think he should play the entire second half? I believe the kid has been injured and hasn't been practicing. Perhaps he's not physically ready for game time yet.
But it all boils down to the coaches that see him every day probably know a little more about him than us fans on a message board that have only seen him in a high school highlight tape.

You are correct. But realize those words are heard as, "blah, blah, blah" by many on here.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Tue Dec 06, 2022 7:35 pmThat's fair. Didn’t know he was injured, first time in 12 months anyone has even shared info on him, so glad I continued to ask. Glad we have an insider like you to share info, especially with basketball where info is harder to get than pulling teeth.goapps93 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 06, 2022 7:37 pmYou are correct. We are playing a high school team, if he’s healthy, he needs to be playing in these 50-70 point wins, which he is. All is right in the world. Go apps, hang 100!

I don't know for sure if he's been hurt. That's what I'm guessing. Or he just needed something to click. His first couple of possessions tonight he looked lost and confused.
He still occasionally looks lost, but now he's at least wanting the ball.

First NET rankings of the year came out yesterday prior to yesterdays game. I doubt yesterdays game changed much of our ranking if at all but this is where we and our opponents are: (as of yesterday)
App State - #243
Opponents we have wins over:
Louisville - #360
ETSU - #322
SE Louisiana - #216
NC Central #190
Opponents we've lost to:
Campbell - #180
Kennesaw State - #136
Furman - #125
UNC-Charlotte - #74
overall, not very good

I am amazed to be almost 60, have watched sports my whole life, don't live under a rock and have never heard of two opponents we played this season. How on earth do they find these schools?

We've got another cupcake December 17th. The only way to make the tourney is to win the Sun Belt. We definitely need to schedule bigger games against P5 teams, it's way more fun for players traveling to a Florida than playing Regent U. And helps our resume and brand and maybe even get on TV. The only thing I like about cupcakes is getting the young guys on the court for PT/experience, hopefully he get's some minutes in conf. play.

know that when Duke schedules App their boards have similar comments. It's a slow climb but there definitely has been a climb over the past 3 years. Everything they are doing now is preseason for conference which is really preseason for the tournament.
