We can’t defend the back door cut. Kennesaw St killed us with that too.
It started this season with Campbell. Then Kennesaw...now everybody will use it against us 'cause our coaching staff doesn't realize that every JuCo head coach in the nation has authored a book on defending the back-door cut in b-ball...not to mention every college coach in the 50s-60s-70s-80s. Let's chip in and buy our staff a copy. I know, I may just send them my autographed copy of our very own Coach Bob Light's book...[may he continue to rest in peace. He's one of my favorite App mentors--as fine a man as I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.]

Nope. I kept my Bob Light book collection all these many years for a reason. Our guys are on their own to figure it out.

This team is so inconsistent. We go on a 17-0 run to immediately let Furman go on a 11-0 run. There's a lot to like about this team but too often they lapse in to a series of one on one efforts and when I watch our opponents run a pattern offense, I wonder why we can't do the same.

I see ability with little intensity from both teams.
The defense was lazy most of the game.

I think I am to old for college basketball. The players Don't focus for longer than 3-5 minutes. They have little care for turnovers and missed opportunities. The picks are lazy. The cuts off of picks are lazy... zero traps on defense... following offensive players across the court with no cut off letting an easy lay up.

It looked like a scrimmage.
How anyone would pay for a game with that quality of effort....smh
God bless coach Kerns

Furman did a lot of one-on one too… that’s when we took the lead late in second half. Furman was solid enough to eke out a win. There is a lot to like about this team but like another App team, they are just learning to play with each other.

From the time we were up five until the end of the game was hard to watch.
Hope we pick up a win against Charlotte.

Thank goodness we got that call against Louisville. They are terrible at 0-7 (in a minute).

I hear you, PhillyApp. You said it well. Watching most college games drives me nuts. Most teams go too fast for their own good and do not value possession of the ball. Good shot selection is a rarity.

I think Kerns is a great coach so I am sure I am wrong but I have a hard time watching people not follow a shot or hustle for offensive rebounds. My coaches always drilled me to follow up shots and to always go hard after loose balls. Our players just fall back to defense (by design) even if it is a 50/50 ball or with our height advantaged big guys. I could see dropping 2 back but the whole team!!!!

Kerns is a great coach.
Basketball takes weeks to blend talent, not months.
My coach said " if at the end of a game you were NOT exhausted and you didn't have 3-4 fouls... you didn't give everything you had"

I would get a lead against this team and then out hustle this team... watch... if they don't change intensity and effort the conference will eat them up... even though we have lots of talent.

Kerns will make them better. Lots to like about this team, but plenty to work on. The game is definitely different than when many of us played it. They don't even use peach baskets for goals anymore. Who knew.

The beauty of college basketball is that November games are really somewhat meaningless in the sense that teams can look way different in January and winning the conference is what is most important. We have a lot of pieces that just need to come together. Our big man can be a force inside with his ability to block and alter shots. There is a general consensus that we just jack too many 3's. Maybe us old guys still think that analytics are ruining aspects of sports. We can still score points closer to the basket and if we improve FT's we can get some old fashioned 3 point plays.

I think Kerns is a very good coach and this team will be playing Sunbelt Tournament winning basketball in March, but it'll be a road to get there. The lineups in our OOC last season vs what the team utilized in conference play were night and day.

It's unfortunate this one slipped away since it was a couple TOs or FTs from probably going Apps way, but good opportunity coming up against Charlotte.

Glad games are on + . Team is anxious at end of games, good thing is we've had chance to win them all. Need to keep making around 75% of foul shots, seems a higher clip than most seasons I remember. Coach has a lot of options how to rotate players, curious to see adjustments. Looking forward to both upcoming games against Wake Forest and Charlotte.

FU might be the best team to visit HCC this season. They are an established contender year in and year out , quality opponent had our chances .Have to come out of the gate faster.Playing from behind drains the best of them.

According to one of our announcers last night they are a well coached, smart team that doesn't beat themselves. I'd hate to be any team that has the reverse description!

Any reason no Boykin last 5 minutes? Have to have best shooter and 2nd best scorer on the floor in a tight game, especially a starter. Is he injured?
