Campbell is going to be tough!!! They gave NC State all they could handle!APPdiesel wrote: ↑Wed Nov 16, 2022 10:53 amSame. I’ve bought in to Kerns’ process. Certainly the transfer portal helps expedite that process so much faster. You can get the pieces in place in one or two off seasons that would’ve taken you 5 years to recruit. We finally have multiple shooters and a big man who can score and block shots. We looked terrible down the stretch but held on juuuuust long enough. As someone said before, our best player would be their #10 guy. So hats off to them.Seattleapp wrote: ↑Tue Nov 15, 2022 11:10 pmI’m really looking forward to less hero ball this year.
Next up,
Campbell on Friday
Kennesaw State on Saturday
SE Louisiana on Sunday
Tough stretch playing 3 in a row but a great opportunity to get some “back to back” tournament prep and hopefully play a lot of young guys.

Campbell is 193 and we're 194 in today's Kenpom. With so few data points Kenpom sees us as virtually identical basketball teams.CharlotteApp05 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 16, 2022 12:32 pmCampbell is going to be tough!!! Wouldn't put much stock in that NC State game. Campbell is in a full rebuild, projected to be a bottom half Big South team. They'd be a bottom dweller in the Sun Belt this year

NC State was terrible last year, but interesting this year. Their PG is a projected NBA player and their next 5 guys are all transfers, some best players on their former team and one POY in former conference. Keats hasn’t shown he can bring a team together, but they did put up 107 last night on FIU. I wouldn’t discount their performance against NC State. We thought we were going to be in rebuild this year but early indications are that we may be better than last year.HurricaneYosef wrote: ↑Wed Nov 16, 2022 1:04 pmWouldn't put much stock in that NC State game. I don't think Louisville will be that bad - the Ellis kid is good (scored 29) and one of their top players (Withers) played only about 9 minutes because of foul trouble and he was averaging 16 pts/7 rebs and he didn't score last night - they have lost all 3 games by 1 point

Let's just say that they are a potential Final 4 team. We beat them in their gym. Sounds reasonable to me.WVAPPeer wrote: ↑Wed Nov 16, 2022 2:08 pmI don't think Louisville will be that bad - the Ellis kid is good (scored 29) and one of their top players (Withers) played only about 9 minutes because of foul trouble and he was averaging 16 pts/7 rebs and he didn't score last night - they have lost all 3 games by 1 point

But those losses were all at home to non power teams. They may develop as the season progresses, but right now they are not a very good team. They have the talent but just don't seem to have it together under the new coach.WVAPPeer wrote: ↑Wed Nov 16, 2022 2:08 pmI don't think Louisville will be that bad - the Ellis kid is good (scored 29) and one of their top players (Withers) played only about 9 minutes because of foul trouble and he was averaging 16 pts/7 rebs and he didn't score last night - they have lost all 3 games by 1 point

That's true - however those 2 aren't bottom of the barrel teams, especially Wright St. who I believe has made the NCAAs 3 of the last 5 years -hapapp wrote: ↑Wed Nov 16, 2022 2:43 pmBut those losses were all at home to non power teams. They are 2-1 with a close loss to Davidson. They are certainly not a weakling but one would normally think that UL would win those type games. I'm thrilled we scored a victory over a team with the history of UL. I'm also excited by what I have seem from this group thus far. However, I'm not sure it tells us how good we really are at this point. Keep in mind we have an OT win and survived a late last second lay up. This weekend should give us a better idea.WVAPPeer wrote: ↑Wed Nov 16, 2022 3:41 pmThat's true - however those 2 aren't bottom of the barrel teams, especially Wright St. who I believe has made the NCAAs 3 of the last 5 years -hapapp wrote: ↑Wed Nov 16, 2022 2:43 pmBut those losses were all at home to non power teams. Speaking of Davidson. Let's schedule them again. Home and away alternating years like Charlotte.
Why hasn't this happened?

They obviously have some issues. I hope they don't take their slow start out on us.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Fri Nov 11, 2022 11:40 amKFC Yum! Center, Louisville

Louisville 68% chance to win
There's something happening in Louisville. They lost a pre-season scrimmage to Lenoir Rhyne and their season opener to Bellarmine. Louisville will face Wright State Saturday at 1pm. Obviously they will out-talent us, but they look vulnerable.
They aren't scoring many points, so far. They managed only 49 against a strong L-R squad. Their other point outputs have been in the 60s. I think we should throw some of our better defenses at 'em for 40 minutes.
Did someone mention Lenoir Rhyne? You mean Lenoir, Lenoir. Lenoir Rhyne
Look at the score board and see who's behind.
Forgive me. An old chant from the late 60's.

Is there a basketball classic or tournament in Boone this weekend? Odd that we have 3 games back to back to back days.

Not really a tournament, just round robin play with teams switching off each of the three days.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Thu Nov 17, 2022 9:41 amIs there a basketball classic or tournament in Boone this weekend? Odd that we have 3 games back to back to back days.

I’ll create a mini megathread for this weekend’s 3 game stretch.
