nice list put together by Jeff Goodman.
Sun Belt has 61 departures (including the newcomers JMU ODU Marshall, & USM numbers)
We are on the LOW end with only 2 TRANSFER departures, and a positive note both relatively low impact departures. Sasha never played, Duhart saw inconsistent minutes and had potential for bigger role next year, but hadn't proved consistently yet to deserve a high minute role

Re: Transfer Portal Watch
I’m sorry but this is a completely ridiculous process. Schools really need to just do one year contracts with “student-athletes”. Just open the thing up to trades like the pros. Nobody needs or wants to be on a team and work hard for playing time. You didn’t play me big minutes my freshman year I’m going somewhere else that will. Earn it? Nah that’s ok.

Re: Transfer Portal Watch
And I really think for many of these guys it’s an ego thing. They want to be courted again like they were in high school. I’d hate to be a coach at some of these schools. You not only need to win every year but you also have to keep guys happy or they will bolt on you. No wonder why some of these coaches are hanging it up. The really funny name I saw was Coach K’s grandson. So much for that family loyalty.

Re: Transfer Portal Watch
Coach K always said his grandson was good enough to play significant time at a "smaller" school but he wanted to be on the team coached by his grandfather - now he has a chance to go somewhere and play - sorry, but I don't see that is being disloyal to the family?

Re: Transfer Portal Watch
Coaches are hanging it up because of NIL and transfer portal
Covid bonus years having a huge impact on these numbers too
I do like that kids get to leave freely now. Players are no longer stuck if they are a level they shouldn't be playing at (too good, or not good enough). It's also only 1 free transfer, gotta sit if you transfer a second time.
Also some coaches are telling guys to "enter the transfer portal" instead of dismissing them from the team for program violations, and even telling guys to enter if the coach deems that they won't get any playing time.

Joking. Couldn’t care less what the young man does. Re: Transfer Portal Watch
Updated the watch list with the following guys:
Ricky Council IV SG (Wichita St) So. - Council is a 3 star recruit from Durham, NC. We were one of his offers during the 2020 cycle. 12 ppg 5.4 rpg 1.1 spg 44/85/31% splits in 2022. Was the AAC Sixth Man of the Year as well.
Jeriah Coleman C (St. Francis PA) So. - Coleman is a true 7 footer who played HS ball in Virginia. He put up 2.3 ppg 2 rpg 0.6 bpg in only 6.2 MPG, think he could provide us depth in the post.
Shakeel Moore SG (Mississippi St) So. - Former 3 star top 150 recruit from Greensboro. 8.7 ppg 2.2 apg 3.1 rpg started 29/34 games for Miss St last year. Started career at NC State. Could be in mix if he wants to return to NC and play a bigger role at a school like App
Tyler Harris PG (Memphis) Gr. - Former 4 star Top 150 recruit. 9.1 ppg 1.4 apg 34% 3P mostly off bench in career. Probably looking to start as a PG somewhere in finale year, we are graduating our 2 starting PG's...could be a fit.
Jomaru Brown PG (Eastern Kentucky) Gr. - 1400+ points at EKU, 12.2 ppg 1.5 apg 1.1 spg 38% FG 31% 3P. From Durham, NC. Great fit in terms of what Kerns and co look for in a guard. We are in the mix here, he is visiting Coastal soon I believe
Logan Landers C (Kansas St) Fr. - Former 3 star Top 300 recruit from Wisconsin. 1.1 ppg 1.1 rpg off bench this yr for KSU, probably needs to go down a level to see playing time. Great size at 6'10 230
Sy Chatman PF (Illinois State) Gr. - 13.5 ppg 6.1 rpg 1.1 bpg 55/72% splits. Athletic post player who MAKES HIS FREE THROWS. 2 yrs at UMASS, 2 yrs at Ill St. Would be a quality veteran and much needed addition to the frontcourt
Caleb Fuller F (UC Davis) Gr. - 12.1 ppg 5.5 rpg 2.1 apg 34% 3P shooter in 2022 for UC Davis. Originally from England.
Tamell Pearson C (Western Illinois) Gr. - Former 3 star Top 350 recruit from Chicago. 10.2 ppg 6.4 rpg 50/67% splits in 2 years at WIU. Former UAB transfer. Great size at 6'10 223, heard we are seriously in play here.
Georgia State also just picked up another transfer, Jamaine Mann from Vanderbilt

Re: Transfer Portal Watch
Not surprising since they take kids with academic and off court issues often. We don't allow it.

Re: Transfer Portal Watch
I don't think the portal will hurt us...Now the NIL...that scares me a little. Money is going to be important to a lot of the demographic that play football. I still believe most kids (18 year old) want to play in front of fans. The fans or lack of fans help football recruit but hurt basketball and baseball. Just an opinion..no facts from me to support any of this.
I also think our weather helps in football...August practice in Boone or South Alabama?? I would take Boone all day everyday if I was trying to grow my physique and my skills. Baseball/Golf I would look elsewhere. Basketball should not matter....Boone is as good as any.

Re: Transfer Portal Watch
So, you're telling us that we'll eventually (by Wed., May 18th) sign at least one D-I transfer as big as Duhart (height, vertical ups and wingspan)HurricaneYosef wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 12:16 pmhttps://watchstadium.com/every-player-i ... 4-21-2022/

but with more experience and more on court success? I like your optimism.
If it happens to the Apps, it happens to me!

Re: Transfer Portal Watch
Second D2 All American for South Alabama
QUALITY addition for Coastal, we got beat out for him
Another player we got beat out on, this time by UNC Concord
Ga State loses an athletic front court player to Butler
Coastal lost Dibba to South Carolina, a solid player. Didn't believe he was high major caliber
Tons of movement recently, and still crickets on our end.
At the end of this week the transfer portal CLOSES. Meaning no more players can ENTER the portal. Player already in the portal can still commit/sign after this window closes/ Worth keeping an eye on guys like Delph, Donovan, and James Lewis.

Re: Transfer Portal Watch
Hope springs eternal! We may all be pleasantly surprised, if and when, we sign anyone from the portal but it is a bit depressing seeing some of these folks we were pursuing going to our rivals.HurricaneYosef wrote: ↑Thu Apr 28, 2022 10:50 am

Being talked to and being offered are not the same. One of the above came to us as I understand it, and we did not offer.

There have been at least two named in this thread that contacted us and we said no for various reasons.
