Re: Transfer Portal Watch
But what if someone comes along and says - "hey we are a piece or two from making a long run and we think you are exactly what we need, here's how you can really help us"???

Re: Transfer Portal Watch
There is always going to be a "what if" scenario. What if he really likes playing for Kerns and wants to help take the program to the next step? He plays great with Gregory. What if, he wants to stick around for Gregory's senior season to see if they can win the conference outright? Look at how many Super Seniors we had come back in football to try to improve on 2020 and "unfinished business."
The transfer portal doesn't always mean that if we have successful talent, they are going to run to play elsewhere. In fact, I think the majority of the players transfer because they do not deem their situation to be successful.
Texas Tech did raid the G5, but they had to react to losing 8 players to the transfer portal last year:
Benson (Texas), G Nimari Burnett (Alabama), Burton (Pittsburgh), Edwards (Houston), Goldin (Florida Atlantic), F Joel Ntambwe (undecided), Peavy (TCU), Smith (Oklahoma State)
For 2021 (per Sportico) 82 players transferred from a P5 to a Mid Major. 149 went from a Mid Major to a P5. (94 went from P5 to P5). "Mid-majors" include the West Coast, American, Atlantic 10, Missouri Valley, Mountain West and Big East conferences.
Only 61 players went from other G5's (that group would included the Sun Belt) to P5 schools. However, 99 P5 players transferred to other G5's. So, in theory the P5 schools aren't really looking beyond the West Coast, American, A10, Missouri Valley, Mountain West and Big East. If they want to pull a player up, they are looking to the talent pool in the Multi-Bid conferences.

So, in the case of Texas Tech, they were unique in that they lost a ton of players to the transfer portal. They reloaded with 2 P5 transfers, 5 other G5 transfers and a juco transfer. They were responsible for 5 of the 61 other G5 players who moved to P5.

Re: Transfer Portal Watch
Oh, I understand there are a lot of "what ifs" - my point is until he proclaims "I'm coming back to APP", I feel that the biggest concern to us will be other D1 programs -

Re: Transfer Portal Watch
Give the coach at Texas Tech credit for taking all those players from many different systems and getting them all in the same page so quickly. It is a joy to watch them play.

Re: Transfer Portal Watch
It looks like his time has about run its course. Just looking at his stats for his short time there they aren't great. For someone heading into his late 20s the door is starting to close unless he just really really wants to spend his life being an overseas journeyman. If so, more power to him.

Re: Transfer Portal Watch
Worth mentioning Sun Belt newcomer Southern Miss has 7 guys already in the portal, most of their starting rotation. They were 7-26 this past year meaning 1 of two things: 1) They might be even worse next year 2) Cleaning house from a 7 win team isn't always bad, could restock and be surprisingly good (kind of like UTA last year after their coach left).

Re: Transfer Portal Watch
I saw snippets of USM play. They were bad…real bad. High schoolish look to their play. In fact none of the sun belt newcomers were very good this year. Marshall was at the bottom of C-USA, ODU was average at best and JMU also had a losing record after showing a little promise early on.HurricaneYosef wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 9:48 amWorth mentioning Sun Belt newcomer Southern Miss has 7 guys already in the portal, most of their starting rotation. Agreed. Also worth noting JMU's coach Mark Byington was at Georgia Southern for 7 years prior to taking the JMU job.app97 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 12:31 pmI saw snippets of USM play. ASU's 6-11 F/C Sasha Glushkov to enter transfer portal per Sun Belt report published by verbalcommits.com.
If it happens to the Apps, it happens to me!

Re: Transfer Portal Watch
Allow me to clarify...I don't wish Sasha any ill will. And I sympathize with his situation.
I am one of those who had extremely high hopes when we signed him.
I just made a factual statement that we all know to be true when it comes to D1 sports. The university makes a commitment by providing money, manpower and resources to develop and equip the player for success on/off the field. Players have to deliver on their commitments to make grades, get better on the court and deliver in the form of quality minutes and points.

Re: Transfer Portal Watch
I didn't take your post as anything bad. He averaged 1.6 points. Making the statement it wouldn't be much of a loss is factual given past production.Bootsy wrote: ↑Sun Mar 27, 2022 8:32 amAllow me to clarify...I don't wish Sasha any ill will. And I sympathize with his situation.

Re: Transfer Portal Watch
Agree with above. He could be the greatest young man we’ve ever had but he doesn’t have the skills to play at this level.

Re: Transfer Portal Watch
Updated to reflect some decisions
JR Clay from Tenn Tech is transferring to Tennessee St. Thought we could get him to cross state lines to Boone.
Ladarrius Brewer (and his brother Ty Brewer) are transferring to UAB from ETSU
