Excited for the opportunity to host a post season game and get to 20 wins on the season. Program is going in the right direction! Hopefully Justin is able to play

Our opponent for The Basketball Classic should be known within the 10:00 hour. The NIT selections are in print so TBC pairings should be forthcoming shortly. Some teams play tomorrow night. I'd say that the teams playing tomorrow have known their status for a day or two or won't be traveling far from their own campus.

One hundred teams make the NCAA and NIT. Another 16 make the CBI. The CBI field has already been announced.
Getting 32 additional teams to play in a new tournament seems ambitious. I don’t mean to sound alarmist, but are we sure this new tournament to which we’ve committed is legit? It wouldn’t surprise me if a number of teams decline.
I have no information. It’s just an uneasy feeling.

We would have received CBI bid. A tournament you can at least bid on playing at home first two rounds

I can't see anyway this happens as a 32 team event. Technically, only new in name as it previously existed as the CIT.acp wrote: ↑Sun Mar 13, 2022 9:54 pmOne hundred teams make the NCAA and NIT. Another 16 make the CBI. The CBI field has already been announced.

We get USC Upstate who is 14-16 on the year, but 10-6 in the Big South. Underwhelming.

Glad our team has a chance to play if that is what they want. Apparantly it is, or Coach Kerns would not participate. Doesn't matter who the opponent is.

Good experience playing in tournaments, Kerns knows this.

Re: Men Basketball in the post-season for 2022
Sorry, but two teams in the field of less than 32 have losing records. Meanwhile, the likes of UNC Asheville, VMI, Troy, Northern Colorado, California Baptist, Purdue-Ft. Wayne, and Rice are playing in the 16 team CBI in Daytona Beach. I wonder if we had the option and chose to play at home in a tournament that failed to garner all the teams to fill out the bracket.
I do hope we play well and win the whole thing but you have to wonder about the motivation at this point. A win does give us 20 for the season which always a mark to shoot for.
Edit: I just checked and the field is up to 16. That would, at least, give it the feel of a real tournament.

Re: Men Basketball in the post-season for 2022
I am feeling better about this tournament as it appears that will be a go. I wondered when I went to bed last night and the numbers were about 1/2 what they are now. After looking at each of the schools in the list in my previous post, many were in a similar situation to us this year. Several were conference regular season runners up, teams that lost in the semis of their conference tournament, and in some cases a win away from being the AQ for their conference. Could be a competitive tournament.

Does anyone know why all of these teams declined? I thought that was strange or has some meaning that I would like to understand as I have not had a chance to dig into the rationale.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 6:41 amArkansas State, Liberty, Samford and Weber State have declined invitations.

Pay to play and some schools do not want to spend the money I assume.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 2:34 pmDoes anyone know why all of these teams declined?
