We won shooting 35% (22% from 3). If we ever figure things out offensively……

Ga Southern team defense % is right behind us. They play good defense. One would expect lower FG%. With that said, we have had a low FG% most of the year. Got the win. Move to the next one.

I personally think that most any team can ramp up and play defense if they choose to. It takes an added level of hustle that many squads just don’t want to do. The bottom line is just scoring at least one point more than you allow but if a team doesn’t quite have the offensive capability then a strong defensive effort can shorten the game and hopefully limit the opponent’s shots. Southern isn’t loaded with offensive talent so they appear to get in your face on the other end. When we get after it same on the defense

Agreed. I also think our offensive efficiency would improve if we would take it to the hoop versus settling for 3s in many situations. 2nd half against Arlington, it seemed we did this more and it paid off. Given how well Ga Southern plays defense, it may not worked as well..but most teams , I would think so

That, coupled with the fact that most of them can’t count that high, makes it even more fun!

In Kerns postgame he mentioned that no team that won the regular season or tournament has made the Big Dance that wasn’t top 3 in their league in scoring defense… and thats over all 32 D-1 conferences for the last 5 years…… take the stairs and 1-0 on Saturday.

Very few college teams shoot with any real consistency enough to overcome a lack of defense. Most NBA teams just jack 3’s the entire game. I’ve watched most of our games. The games where we rush shots- mostly 3’s we struggle. Many of our games over this winning stretch we have taken the ball to the basket, gotten more offensive rebounds and have gone to the line. The 3 ball certainly raises more excitement than a 15’ jumper but logic tells you that the closer you shoot the greater chance the ball might go in. If you drive to the basket more good than bad can happen- make the layup, make it and get fouled, miss it and get fouled, miss it and get a rebound second chance. On a 3 I’ve seen us make it (low %), miss with an occasional long rebound or miss with no follow allowing the opponent to limit us. Keens has these guys buying in and it’s working. We caused a lot of bad shots last night and made Stink run down the shot clock.

Always feels good to beat the stink. Way to hold on there at the end.

One thing that’s lacking in our offense is passing. I’ve watched a few Furman games this year (because they’re local to me here in Greenville) and they pass so well. Crisp and creative movement is a deliberate part of their offense. When we pass it feels like the ball handler is in a bind and needs to get rid of it. Furman does it like a shell game intended to confuse their opponent. They’ll end up with the ball inside the paint and you’re astounded as to how it got there.

I'm still hoping to hear for a promotion for tomorrow's game.
